Good evening everyone! I finally acquired a Hoover model 29 two weeks ago, and this weekend I cleaned it up. Using tips from Fred (HoovCeleb), I completely went through and washed the machine. I took it all apart, lubricated the top and bottom motor bearings, and washed the entire vacuum. It's not perfect, but it runs flawlessly!

Here's a view of the base. I lubricated the brushroll and installed new nylon Hoover brushstrips. I washed the base, and lubricated the wheels, the spring-loaded handle socket, the latches that hold on the bag and the bottom plate, and the height adjust mechanism. Nothing on the vacuum creaks or squeaks. The handle is still very tight!

Momomomotor...

I went through and washed and lubricated the motor. A couple odd things happened to the vacuum over the years. The top bearing was replaced at one point with what I assume is a top bearing from a Convertible. It seats and works perfectly, but looks a little off. Also at some point someone messed with the wires. Instead of screwing securely into the motor (in 2 groups of 3), all the wires were cut at the end, and twisted together. I taped them down to secure them. The important thing is that it sounds perfect!

Question

What was the difference between the model 29 and 62 besides colors? Did the 29 come before the 62? Was the 29 a value priced model? It shares the same base as the 60 series, yet the model 28 is completely different. Thanks.

YaY!

Congrats, Corey!

It looks simply divine... I really need to give my 29 the "Spa" treatment. It's in great shape, but I still like ripping a machine apart and doing all of that work... I bought mine from Robb C years ago when he moved from Colorado to Georgia. Eventually, I found an original bag for mine. You'll find one someday, too!

Thanks for sharing pictures!

Just about my favorite Hoover!

That IS a beautiful 29, one of my favorites. Mine received the personal touch from Fred and also runs fabulously! I was fortunate enough to eventually get an original cord and bag, too, and so feel very fortunate. Mine also accompanies a 62,63, & 64 but missing the 64 bag. The 62, also with a partial bumper was higher end with handle grip and of course the Handisak set up. They're all HOOVER through and through from one of their greatest periods!

Nice Find, Corey!!

I have to agree, the 29 is one of my favorites too, and you've got a really beautiful one there. Looks great in the lineup with your 63 and 64. Mine has a replacement bag on it that uses Convertible C bags. Cleaning tools and caddy came with it when I got it, just too bad they didn't make them in burgandy to match the machine!! Congratulations on a nice machine!
