It seems as though the latest OEM Hoover Convertible belt is slightly different from the previous rendition. Have any other Hoover collectors noticed this, or would you suspect a design flaw?

I purchased some more belts from the vacuum cleaner store I have always bought my belts from. The latest belts I bought (I have compared them to some other belts I purchased a while back that were unused) are slightly thinner and have significantly more elasticity. When used on an older metal based convertible, they were much easier to stretch when installing than the older belts, and, with the cleaner running, the brushroll's RPM's were much lower than with the previous belts. Could I have ended up with a few lemons, are has Hoover made their belts differently? I am also certain that there is nothing wrong with the brushroll.

Hoover belts

I have blown out 2 new belts on my Convertible.I have to set it at the lowest setting or it doesn't seem to groom my short pile carpet.

What am I doing wrong?

You are making a mistake if . . .

. . . you are using aftermarket (not genuine) Hoover belts. I am not saying that the latest belts are faulty, just different from the previous manufacturing.

I had a similar experience when the eBay seller who sold me three CWP brushrolls included three belts to go with them. While I appreciated his generosity, I worried that they would be aftermarket. Sure enough, they were not genuine belts, and to no surprise, they all broke after less than 3 minutes of operation. One broke after just 15 seconds!!

After the "incident," I switched to genuine Hoover belts and have been using these Convertibles for about one month, and so far, so good.

Thank goodness!

I thought I was the only one with this issue! I had a newer (since sold) Hoover Guardsman and it constantly snapped belts on thicker carpeting. I was using generic and, thinking that was the issue, I immediately switched to genuine. Same problem! I had never had this happen before and I've never had it happen again so I'm assuming it was a bad batch or something.

No, you are not the only one.

The gentleman at the vacuum cleaner store that I buy belts from always suggests that I keep round Hoover belts belts in plastic sandwich bags. He believes that they are made from a different rubber that is more seceptable to cracking. It is not necessary, however, to keep them in the fridge.

belts

I bought these at a vac store where they all just hang on a hook, so I suppose they must be generic. I think I will order some online from Hoover. Thanks for the tips. Dave, you really keep your belts in the fridge next to your carrots?

On another belt note? I know my local vac shop leans Hoover, and they have genuine Hoover belts that I get for my Decade, but pretty sure the Eureka belts are generic, they do sometimes break. SO, even he said the slightly stretched used Hoover belts work great on that Eureka, so that is what I do. Bad idea? Voodoo??

I have the same problem with my Juniors and Seniors - they all seem to snap belts very quickly, and generic belts are indeed the worst, with 3 Qualtex brand senior belts snapping in less than a minute on my Senior model.
