Hey There,
I inherited my Great Aunt's Hoover Deluxe Convertible U4005 that has been barely used over the years. Anyway, I have tried using it to vacuum my office that has Berber carpet and I've noticed that the vacuum has a very hard time picking up large particles on the floor. It seems to me that it sweeps it up and flits the debris somewhere else, usually behind the machine. I was wondering do these old models shoot a lot of debris out the back where the converter slot is located? Or, is it possible because the bag loads from the bottom rather than the top, that a lot of the dirt is falling back down through? I change the bag regularly though. I've had bottom loaded bags before and I have never noticed this problem. My thought is that debris is blowing out the back where the converter would slip in. Even though the attachments' converter goes over the brushroll, it still has the old-fashioned slot kind in the back. Could it be the brush or the belt? I can't find Hoover Convertible belts anymore. Have to use a Eureka F&G Belt. I know the tension is a little different, but could that make that much of a difference. The motor works great from what I can tell and the brush spins pretty well too. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great! I'm about ready to retire the vacuum, because it's simply not doing the job. I hate to lose it. Thanks!
