I found this at a junk shop today - the guy wanted $20, but I told him that the motor was frozen and the rear wheel assembly was broken. He thought about it for a minute and said, "you can have it for free". I gave him $5, but I think "free" was a fair price. Are these motors rebuildable or are they still available? If available, where can I find one? I'm not even sure what's missing from the rear wheel - some sort of bracket...

Great find!

Honestly,

It really doesn't look that bad to me. Looks like the base may have some minor paint loss. Plus, it has the original bag. The convertibles have one of the easiest motors to work on. Sounds like the motor just needs a good cleaning and some grease on it's lower bearing.

I would love to have that model. Really like the color combination.

It's a keeper for sure.

SAVE IT!!

It's ONE oh HOOVER'S finest. It's "Deluxe" because it has a handle grip, zipper bag, full bumper, and headlight. It was Top of the LIne!. Free was a great price. You can find Convertible motors on ebay all the time. OR, get a "cadaver". Best of luck! Great machine.

Like the METAL fans for Hoover Convertibles better than the lexan ones. The motor in the old one may be able to be rived-give it a try.Wonders what oil and grease can do-did it with a Hoover that had a seized motor. Was at an outdoor swap shop.

Thanks Kenny,

I figured it out - what I couldn't figure out is how the rear axle got out of there to begin with? I also tried and tried to free up that lower bearing, but it just wouldn't loosen up enough. I ended up putting a donor motor in the vacuum from an 80's Hoover I had (with the metal fan off the 1070 on it) and it runs great! I'll put the original motor on the shelf for when I can spend more time with it. I also put a dirty later bag on it that takes A bags since I'm all out of C bags.
