I think i prefer the agitator update on the latter UK models. The US models stuck with this older-style agitator till the end.

Notice the edge-to-edge sweeping of the Conquest. The US Conquest had the same dirt collection system as Seamus's cleaner.

Thanks for starting this thread, Seamus.

And thanks Stephen for those Hooverland scans. I cant believe the UK Dual-Purpose (Elite/Turbolite-style) cleaner is promoted as being quiet running! What were they comparing it to??

Agitators..

Hey David

The 912A onwards used the slide in Nylon brushes. HOWEVER my 4 brush carpet groomer uses the same type as your U7037- are they still availiable over there????

Its interesting your U7037 has a UK format serial number dating it to March 1979. My US built /UK market machines(U4003,2106 Portable and 858) all have UK Serial numbers.

Cheers

Forgot to say..

David..

One interesting point- The U7008 and C1312 lack the Headlight- the 912A was our last version to have it. As you are probably aware our Headlight models had a metal grille over the bulb your versions lacked.

As they were all made over here it strikes me as a bit strange lol!

Seamus, last time i checked the dished cast aluminum brush strips were still current. This was before TTI, though.

When did production of 912a begin in the UK? Seems in the US the model was designated 913 then 918 sometime in the late 60s or early 70s? I know in the US our 913 started as a two rug-position machine and ended as multi-position just before the 918. Ive never been clear about the timeline. Your info about the agitators leads me to believe that US Hoover provided the agitators as well as the bags and handles. Perhaps they added the lamps/lamp sockets as well?

A rough timeline.....

Model 912 1949- Approx 1968 Headlight, 2 position height control, old style rubber handle grip, metal brush inserts. 3 core earthed/grounded.

912A Approx 1968-Approx 1977 Headlight, 3 position height control, new plastic handle grip/switch plate, nylon brush inserts.Early machines earthed late machines double insulated.

U7008 Approx 1977-Approx 1988 Blanking plate over Headlight, fully shrouded furniture guard, 3 position height control all double insulated.

All the above have shake out bags as standard.

C1312 Possibly only 1989???. As U7008 but revised beige/brown body and Conquest bag setup. As ive said im not aware of any other UK collector actually owning one!!!

Ref the differences on US Versions

David

It may be the case (as with the 1340 series Junior/Lightweights) that only the motor unit was made over here. The headlamp would be very easy to add once they got to NC as the blanking plate covering the opening is held on with 2 screws and it would just be a matter of adding the lampholder and wiring. Obviously the bags and handle would be easy enough to add in NC as well.

I know the 90 and early 91s were made in NC before production went to Perivale- would 1949 coincide with the change???
