Been wanting a celebrity for a while and thinking of starting my search for one and was wondering what all it takes to rebuild the motor and powerhead? I know parts are NLA. Could generic bearings be sourced for the motor or did hoover use some special type bearing. I dont know much about vacuum motors nor have i ever or would ever try to rebuild one. I want a celebrity because as a kid i would go to my aunts house and use hers. I always thought it was a odd looking vacuum.

Hoover Celebrity

I have several Celebritys, some of which should need no rebuilding. Some are pictured on thread number 43284 of 5-4-22.All need to go.

I saw those pictures but im looking for either a QS with a chrome top or one like pictured below but not in any specific color and it must have either quadraflex pn and a long hose. Im just not fond of the looks of the earlier celebrity tops and power nozzels.

There's a green QS for sale locally and it looks good on the outside im just not comfortable buying it because of what coukd be going on in the inside and not having anyone close to work on it let alone find parts for it around here

chris

you may not like the looks of those old powermatic celebrities, but those are the ones you can still find parts and power nozzle motors for. the stupid quadraflex pn's the brush strips are nla just like a concept, and the parts for the QS series motors are harder to find.

if you want stuff with parts availabilty, get an older powermatic.

Chris,

Your picture is one of my favorite lids/switch/tool caddy. If you find one needing anything I have many wands/attachments,some hoses/power nozzles and a few parts machines.

Thats good to know. Maybe looks shouldnt really matter. What model would you say to stop at as far as parts avaliblility

How serviceable are the older celebrities. Say the motor bearings started to go are they regular motor bearings? Would a vac shop be able to find them? I ask all these questions because most likely it would have daily use in rotation with my 2 rainbows and 2 luxs

Jimmy

After doing some research the powermatic celebrities seem to be the way to go. Jimmy I'm eyeing up the celebrity 2 elite in one of your pics. Is that the matching pn beside it. Could you at your convenience post some pics of the main unit, pn, and the longest hose you have. In my opinion that's what makes the celebrity is the long hose. Most canister hoses today are a joke. The pics will help me decide if I want to spend the money for packing and shipping cause I know it's going to be expensive

Chris, anything hoover celebrity iv elite and older anything with a powermatic powerhead should be fine. the bearings on celebrity are serviceable. the upper is a traditional roller bearing, the lower a pain in the a$$ needle bearing. but both serviceable with grease. carbon brushes are still easily attainable, and if the powerhead motor craps out, a modern amtek filterqueen short shaft motor is a direct replacement.

the brushroll just takes convertible brushes strips, which are still widely available online

Another question

Are celebrity cord wonders known to have any problem? Ive never liked vacuums with cord winders. Sure there nice but to me it's just something else to break.

Celebrities

The 2 in picture are among my best and should need little if anything.Hope to get by weekend and wipe off dust and plug in.Power nozzle is original.
Hose-These should have genuine original Hoover hose but only longer hose I know of is standard commercial Celebrity hose.
Cordwinder-The best cordwinders in my experience have been Electrolux.Others can be troublesome with cord not staying in place or winding slowly or not fully.A low milage Celebrity winder with no abuse should still be good.

Thanks

I know the long commerical hose your talking about but that's not what I'm looking for. Base model celebrity came with a short hose and some even came with eureka style hose( don't want eureka style hose). I want the hose length that came with the TOL celebrities

Chris, there was only ONE standard hose length for consumer model celebrity powermatics regardless of price point. and far as eureka style hose blank. when youre talking about a nearly 50 year old machine, where those electric hoses are rare to find anymore let alone the pn, you cant be that picky. both hose blank styles function just the same.

I know I'm too picky been trying to work on that. What exactly is the standard length of the hose? To me it always seemed they where really long but i was pretty young the last time i had my hands on a celebrity.

Jimmy

You just made my decision that much harder. I didnt know the IV had a pn plug. Sadly i cant take both. Shipping for one is going to be outrageous. Got some thinking to do

2 more questions

Does the celebrity II use foam in the bottom like the QS and what thickness is best? I don't want to reduce airflow. Also will I cause damage to the motor if I use a hepa bag cut to fit as a pre motor filter?

Does anyone have the part numbers for the celebrity II carbon brushes or needle bearing. I found a hoover needle bearing online and if it's the correct one im gonna order it if they even still have any avalible

Jimmy, any update on finding the floor brush hose and extra wands for the celebrity? I know your busy sorting vacs and with your book store but just wanted to make sure you didn't forget.

Chris,

I didn't forget the Celebrity or dozens of other things I need to do.I had an unexpected trip out of town last weekend which put me even further behind. When I get interest from collectors I do want the best here to go to new homes but I would be better off with the dumpster and scrap metal yard which I also have very little time for.If anyone nearby would want to help with vac store clean out or to market the best vacs online for a fee I would welcome the help.Hoping to find Hoover hose and parts for a few other collectors this weekend.

Hoover motor carbon brushes

Will, just so you are aware, the carbon brushes used in all of these Hoover motors was just recently discontinued as of the start of 2022 by TTI. I just picked up 2 sets myself as I have a Dimension 1000. So, just a warning to anyone needing to rebuild the motor & replace those carbon brushes that you're gonna have to hunt online and in old vac shops for dealers that have stock.
