Help Support VacuumLand:

Wow! I am certainly learning things about vacuums I never knew. Thanks again for the replies, I will look into some of the suggestions more closely.

Good luck, try a few of them out and see what you like. Don't get hung up in these forums too much. People tend to be helpful but biased on what they like and think everyone should have. I mentioned most of the top brands. A canister is what you said you were looking for as well.

Or a Compact/TriStar vacuum; they have lots of suction power; whether it be the current A101 (EXL, MG & CS) or the older models (CXL, DXL & EX-20)[this post was last edited: 7/31/2013-13:38]

Saying a Miele is the best on the market, is just an opinion not a basis of fact.. Personally in " my opinion" Miele,s above the floor tools are horrid. I can also say in my opinion go with the new aerus Electrolux, you won't go wrong. If you ever have a problem (big if btw) they will come to your home, fix it there or if they have to take it in to the back to the shop will leave you a loner. You won't have to pack it up and ship it to some authorized service center.

A Dyson DC33 should last and work well, they also have a five rear warranty, can be used on all floor types, and are also quite durable.

Opinions

Of course they are opinions and opinions not facts. Everyone has different taste and that is what keeps in interesting. A lot of people love Dyson, about half of us would never use one. That does not make the Dyson people wrong or me right. I have owned almost every modern day vacuum worth considering so My opinions do come from experience.
