Hello All,

My Heritage II power unit died. power light still comes on, but nothing. Would appreciate suggestions on whether to have it repaired, or bite the bullet and purchase a used Sentria. I hate to give up all my extra long hoses, Micron Magic bags, etc hat would have to be rigged to fit a Sentria.
If anyone is in the Chicago area, that would be especially helpful. Will provide my phone number if so.

thanks to all,
Don Smith

Don,

Here are the following troubles, possible causes and remedies from the official Kirby Heritage II service manual:

TROUBLE: Power on light operates but motor does not run.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

1. Defective speed selector switch.

2. Defective brushes.

3. Loose or broken wire at foot or speed selector switch.

4. Broken field lead.

REMEDIES:

1. Replace speed selector switch.

2. Replace brushes.

3. Remove housing shell and inspect wires.

4. Inspect leads; disassemble and test for open field.

Sound like a easy fix.

I been working on Kirby's for twelve years, those heritage 2 machines are the best machines kirby ever built. This is most likely something very easy to fix, take it to a good vac shop and have them fix it.I see no difference between a good operating heritage 2 and G series kirby in cleaning performance.I feel the heritage's are lighter and easier to maneuver. Have the service center check the rear wheel spacers,if the rear wheels move back and forth on the axle the spacers should be replaced.

Give this a try----

I also have a Heritage II model and when it will not start I remove the rug nozzle (or hose) and twirl the fan around by the belt drive shaft several times . This gets the carbon motor brushes into alignment and it always works for me. I hope this helps. Give it a try and see if it works.
