It's nice to know that in these tough economic times Mr. Oreck has increased his prices, shortened his warranties, and even eliminated the free gift. The Oreck XL Platinum has replaced the XL-21, the warranty (as well as the service contract) is now 10 years instead of 21. Their Gold model now has a 5 year warranty instead of 10, and so on. The free iron has been eliminated. I've already seen the new infomercial for the XL Platinum. As much of an Oreck zealot as I am, I really think this is an abomination.

I think it is nothing but a line of cheap made in china plastic the only good that u can get out of an oreck is the lightweight and the motor other than that the machine is just overpriced garbage.

hhmm

I thought it still came with the iron. That was whole reason for wanting it lol. J/K. I do have an oreck but bought it second hand and use it in rotation with the other vacs.

I disagree.

I never was a fan of Oreck until I knew Rick. I have a couple Orecks in my collection, including the XL21. It's not a piece of garbage, not even close. I have the breast cancer model, too, which isn't as good, but it's also not a bad vacuum. The 21 is better, but even the lesser model isn't garbage. Those are strong words. As far as I know, all Orecks are American-made. I use their air cleaners, as well, and I'm very happy with those. I have six of them, and they all work very well.

Okay Electroluxxxx....

Let's not bash the integrity of the product. That's not why I created this post. There are plenty of other brands out there that I feel are overpriced garbage (cough Dyson cough Miele) but I try and keep those feelings aside. Oreck is still an American made product, lightweight and powerful, and you tell me, what other vacuum cleaner manufacturer offers a free tune-up service when they sell a cleaner? I'm just steamed that Oreck is now offering owners less bang for their buck. In these difficult times, they can ill afford to do so.

I just saw a commercial for the new Oreck XL Platinum a few times while I was watching Sex And Lies In Sin City, The Ted Binion Story.

It has a new look to it and can't say that I like it, but at least it is still made in the USA, eventhough I do think they are a little overpriced(Ithink that of most stuff anyways)
I did find it unusual also that they never mentioned the free tune ups or the warranty and the free gift, it looks like it dosen't even come with the canister anymore unless they just don't mention it any longer.

As for shortening the warranty that dosen't make sense unless they were loosing too much on having to replace deffective units that didn't last. And I can see getting rid of the free gift to save money which I would rather see a free promo go than to raise the prices, which is not making sense since the prices went up also.

I love the oreck discussion

this has to be the most controversial topic lol. I happen to like my oreck and in my own opinion cleans very well. I have three dogs and it keeps up with them fairly well.

I do not have an Oreck but I will not say that they are a bad vacuum, they just don't appeal to me.
At the resturant I worked at while I was in school got an Oreck to replace their Convertible 65 in 2003. It was a good vacuum but after the abuse from everyone but myself it just started to fall apart and after 6 months it needed rebuilt and then it went upstairs where the owners lived for their use.

If they aren't abused like anything else I am sure they would last and do a decent job cleaning and I did like how light they were which is a plus.
I am sure with the egronomic handle and only weighing 8 lbs the Oreck has to be a strong seller in the Senior citizen market.
And it's best feature it is still actually manufactured in the USA

Thats what I think the Oreck is a big seller in the senior citizen market. Of course they would be. Most people cant handle a large vacuum such as a rainbow kirby dirt devil or anything like that. Also most seniors dont have alot of dirt to pick up just crumbs and dust which a oreck is probably good at. Orecks arent great for every home but good for some.

I was over there the other day.I tried the Simplcity Freedom then went to the Oreck Store and tried the Xl21.Well the Freedom wins big time. The lady told the Xl21 is more powerful but it has a 3.5 Amp motor in it..Why did they make a bigger Vacuum with a bigger Fan and a less Powerful Motor..The Freedom just had the feel like the power cord and switch and the motor sounded better plus its half the Price.I dont really care about the Iron,ETC....

I too have to say that Oreck is not a bad vacuum. I have the top of the line XL21 and it cleans very well. It grooms the carpet well and moves a fair amount of air. I do think it is overpriced, but like anything in todays market, if someone is willing to buy it, it will sell.

Mine is my daily driver. I have a cat and dog and it is great to be able to grab the Oreck, it is light, easy to use, fairly quiet and quick.

Just my two cents.

I am sorry for upsetting those with my opinion some things should be kept to my self However I do love some of their modles like the canister vacs. they are like the miele and very quiet. and the xl 21 is a real nice durable upright with great features. I was at a place that is carrying a new line of uprights that have attachments. I did check out one of the modles and the machine itself is very nice. and again I apologize for getting out of hand.

well

I know everyone has an opinion when it comes to the poor oreck, Yes its loud yes its not manufactured in a way that would make me want to buy a ton of them. But it is still a nice cleaner and gets the job done. My mother has had hers for years and loves it. I love mine.

Has anyone seen the new Oreck lineup?

I bought the Oreck XL. Mine came with the iron and canister vac. I also bought one of the air cleaners. My Oreck seems to made at least as good as the other new vacs. I do not like the iron. It went to the Goodwill after one use. I didn't like the canister either. I did not like having to carry it around and mine did not have very much air-flow. I think it's a matter of personal preference but I didn't like the way you had to keep picking up the upright to go from one surface to another. It did pick up the nap and the bag seemed to be good. I didn't like all the noise. It just wasn't a good match for me. I also didn't like the air cleaner. I could not see that it was doing anything. I got an Electrolux air cleaner-what a difference. In all fairness I have not tried the new models. Mine is a beautiful yellow color!

Has anyone seen the new Oreck models?

Does anyone know if the Orecks are still made in the USA or are they just assembled in USA? I noticed the address is no longer New Orleans?
Morgan- I have not tried the new models except in the store. Mine is about 3 years old. Sounds like you like yours.
Patrick-maybe I need to have my air cleaner checked. When I wash mine I get very little out of the machine.

I am not the biggest Oreck fan but I agree with sleepdoc that they aren't BAD machines. I do like to have them around because they are hot items to have for sale. I do however think that all of the new ones are ugly enough to puke at. And if you will take notice they are no longer the 8lbs vacuum but now the 9 lbs vacuum. Well to tell you the truth they are 8 or 9 lbs the first week you use them then they get full and heavy.lol

Oreck

I had a few of the Orecks in my lifetime but renamed them "A Wreck" they have to be the worst vacuum cleaner(other than Dirt Devils" I ever owned.Over rated and way over priced. I love the cordless iron thow!!!LOL

Okay laundromat, let's just leave it at you are not an Oreck customer. It's NOT the cleaner for you. I can tell you one Oreck will last the life of ten Dirt Devils. It's not at all uncommon to see an Oreck 20 or 25 years old still going strong.
