Found a Rotho

I came across a parts/repair listing for this rotho vacuum I figured for the price, why not?
It arrived and right off the bat it didn't run, upon opening it up I found the cord winder wasn't making proper contact so pressing them together I proceeded to run it and the motor sounded pretty rough.
Digging into the machine I found it was a lot less complicated than I had figured it would be. The motor was a Domel and took quite some time to get apart due to all the rust. Eventually i managed to break it apart and remove the front bearing (which I was later told was damaged) I also replaced the back one cause, why not.

After getting the motor together and confirming that it ran smoothly the machine was then cleaned up and re-assembled.

Unfortunately I still cannot use the machine as I lack the Aquafilter chamber for it Parts seem to be rather scarce here in the US and it seems like the only option would be to import one from Germany. If anyone knows of a place to find one in the US it would be appreciated.

I still have not adjusted to the switch on this thing it doesn't just push on like many you seem to have to push it to the side a little to turn it on it's really strange. Also it seems to use the same hose as like a Lindhaus Aria and a few other vacs.

TLR Found a Rotho, Replaced bearings in a rusty motor and still can't use it due to missing pieces.

There were a bunch of “refurbished” ones (practically NIB) On eBay forever. I just checked and they’re all gone or they took down the auction.

I got mine for $200. Straight suction model. Pretty impressive but like the Rainbow a pain in the ass to clean up after, and this one is by far worse because of all the nooks and crannies. It’s in the box now, I use it as an extractor and not so much regular vacuuming.

Next time I have it out I’ll post some pics,

Yeah baffle systems tend to be messier to clean. It's just the nature of the beast I guess. You can get a bag system for these but I just don't see the point it kind of takes away everything that's unique about it.

Mine has the bag conversion, but it is damn near impossible to find parts for these machines here in the states.

Never heard of Rotho but that looks exactly like a Thomas!

It is a Thomas, for whatever reason they named and marketed them Rotho in the US. I recall seeing a fair amount of youtube videos years back often comparing them to Rainbow, now it seems they're basically non existent in the US.

Nice "pairing up" with the Kirby Avaler in #7! Have you done any testing on this? It looks like a beast of a machine.

The reason for the pairing was to show how massive the machine really is. Few here have seen one in person but many of us have seen a Kirby G series.

No, no testing has been done as it lacks the aquafilter system, it seems like my only option is to import one from Germany so it may be a while before it's complete enough to test.
