Filter Queen!!!

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Thanks for all the kind words, it certainly made my day, and for that price it wasn't staying there to meet an uncertain fate with a dumpster. The Mustard Seed in Port St. Lucie dumpsters more everything than I can stand. If I can figure out my cheezy video feature on my camera, I may YouTube it.

Congrats on the cheap yet wonderful find. I always liked vacuums with the curved wands...I wish all of them had that feature.

Air-Way and Monitor/Kingston cylinder and Rexair Rainbow and

... to name a few more. There is something so elegant and just right looking about those Swan's Neck wands as they gracefully exit the hose, swooping down to connect to the floor tool. It may matter but little to some but the fewer abrupt bends in the airway path the more efficient the 'pickupage' and less whistling noise is produced.

I also think the tools steer better, particularly under low furniture when the wands are flat to the floor, and the upper J bend falls easier to the hand & wrist while driving. From a purely engineering Stresses and Torque viewpoint the S wand entering the tool on a straight horizontal line puts a more evenly distributed push & pull force on the mating parts than the 45 degree angled pivoting elbows on straight wand machines. The grinding lateral strains can and do wear away the mating surfaces leading to Floppy Tool Syndrome. And well, who needs another floppy tool?

Whoopsie-daisy! I just re-read that last bit. Please pardon the unintentional entendre.

Picture L>R - Monitor cylinder, Air-Way 55, Air-Way 66 and Air-Way 77 with possibly the longest slowest aluminum j-bend wands. Yes, the Air-way nozzles are not compatibly interchangeable as the wand tip length from the clamp ring is not consistent.

Dave, waxing poetic, pontifical and particular on this lovely Easter Sunday morning.

Btw, for all the finicky and comfortably semi-authentic restorer's out there, there is a new-this-winter 1/4" half-round tubular rubber self-sticking insulation gasket product available in white, grey, brown and black for doors & windows, at hardware stores, that is ideal for replacing the dessicated nozzle bumper strips, for appearances sake, on vintage Air-Way and similar tool nozzles. As seen on the far right 77 tool. Looks and behaves better than the expensive gray player piano tubing I've been using up to now...

Paid $66 ($34 sale price + $32 S/H) for my tan/salmon Mdl #31 FQ on eBay (comp. 2 when I paid $5 for a brown 31 from garage sale)
Is this tan/salmon 31 early or late mdl & when did FQ make brown 31s? Is this 31 supposed 2 have PN? My brown 31 doesn't have PN but my K31X does--it came with a Mdl #K88 PN

Mine is a model 500 just checked.

Thanks, mine is in pretty good condition considering its age but its no collectors gem.
Mine was also more expensive but yours was a bargain. Even just the crevice tool is worth $3.20 & the rest if it works well is just a bonus as you can use it as a carvac in the garage.

It's the only one of my filter queens as it was the last that I didn't open up to the motor & clean it a bit.
I got tired of the mess & I have so many each one having some problem & hoping to put together a few good ones from the clan.
Still I changed some on off switches ^ hi lo switched just to make sure eveyone would function at least on high.

Can't even get parts for the 80's model 31 anymore
Guess you can say, I got over the vac bug so I will be selling off some so that I can again look in a corner & not see one
LOL

Go back & get as many parts as you can.
Access are wonderful & you can always trade them for something you need.

Yours really needs a new paint job
mine has a dent on top but the paint is pretty good with no rust, the rubber gaket is breaking though as are the rubber ends & I'm missing the crevice tool& the rubber hairs off the upolstery & dust brush.

Got the sprayer which I can't get the top off, mother (I think its that) & felt thing & a newer bojack hose.

Your looks like it was stored outside near the ocean it has alot of rust. Still it was $3.20

Look inside the cap see if it has filter queen on the motor.
Mine may be missing a screen on top or else they didn't make them with a screen then. I can look at the top of the motor when I take the exhaust cap off.

I might have to open up my parts FQ & steal its screen & the metal under the cover...I don't have anything under the exhaust cover. Does yours?

I guess from my parts I can repair it.

I would be interested to know whats under your exhaust cap.
