Favorite Pre-G Series Kirby?

Id have to say the Kirby Classic Omega, with a brand new original bag, mirror finish shine on the chrome, new cord, and new bulb in the headlight hood.
There's just something about that shiny mirror chrome against the dark rosewood brown and the Omega symbol that is appealing to me.
It just looks like an excellent vacuum cleaner without even turning it on,,like it means BUSINESS!
I agree the Kirby Tradition with its chrome next to the dark blue is pretty too. I also love the "Sorocco" or tan-coppertone of the Sani 7, and the DS-50.
Least favorite Kirby is the DS-80.
The dull Army green just dosent do anything for me.

I like so many it's hard to say just one. I'm hoping to run across a nice Tradition or even a Legend II. If/when I can get my 512 done, that'll probably be my favorite pre-G-Series.

I'm partial to the G-Series, though. In that case, I think it's a tossup between the G6 Limited or Ultimate G Diamond. I really like the G5, but I haven't had one yet that didn't have broken plastic pieces.

I'd have to say I think I like all of them except for the Omega... only because of the fake wood inserts. Other than that, the Omega is a nice looking machine.

I had a 500 series Looked very much like the 561 of 137's but a 220volt version , it was complete with all attachments but needed a polish , it worked fine not even bearing noise, However It was stolen when we were busy moving about 5 years ago.

I don't know what upset me more the fact that it was stolen or the fact that some bone head idiot sold it for scrap more than likely I have searched long and hard for it but never found it or another one , probably never will find another here as they did not sell in great numbers here. Kirby Cape town has two but won't sell me one

Favorite Kirby

I would say without hesitation the Dual 80, but a close second would be my Mom's original 518 Kirby. I grew up in a house that had both Kirby's and Electrolux's at the same time, my Dad was an easy sell, he bought new machines for my Mom every few years. I remember growing up they had an Electrolux E and the Kirby 518, after that they traded the E in for a tan G, than the Kirby was traded for a Dual 80. The plastic Power Nozzle wand broke on the G, he traded it in for a 1205 in 1972. Just before he passed away, he traded the Dual 80 in for an Omega. Shortly after his passed away Mom traded the 1205 in for a Super J. I still have her original Omega. After that, I purchased her a Heritage 84 and her very last vacuum before her death was a Marquise which I bought her in 1988.

Agree quite a bit with BrianKirbyClass re; Classic Omega. Despite the fake wood trim (it is growing on me, though), it just LOOKS expensive, purposeful and BUILT! I've got a mint/unused 1974 model--it just looks and sounds stellar. These things were "the business" when they were new. I like them enough that I picked up another (1976 model) over labor day weekend when an ad appeared locally for one with an original hose and a few attachments.
Runners up for me are the Model 562 Sanitronic, D80 and Heritage II. Of course, I've got them all (now that they're affordable!).

My two all time favorite Kirby models are the Tradition and Classic III.

I think the DS80 would be 100% better looking if it were done in the "Sorocco", or tan color of the models before it. Maybe not the exact tan of the previous models, but a dark sparkling shiny coppertone.

Would be beautiful with the tan or gold bag.

There's Just something about that Army green that is ugly to me,,like pea soup, or pea soup vomit,,or guacamole that someone ate and lost! EESH!

AAhhh well, just goes to show, beauty is in the eye of the beyholder!

Yes, But

You have to remember the time period the D-80 was born into. The Avocado appliances, the green shag. The D-80 was perfect for it's time, and is still one of my favorites. Not just the color, but it was one honey of a machine.

True True,,green was the color of the day. One of my relatives built a new home in 1970, and had all green appliances, even the washer and dryer.
She had LONG green shag carpet installed, that had to be raked with a special plastic rake.
You raked, vacuumed and then raked again.
Was beautiful once it was done, but the minute someone walked across it,that ruined it!
I remember She bought a new Hoover DAM, and made sure it was green also.

Haha, jeeesh,,people had more time on their hands back then evidently!
