Im not really surprised that the suction only vacuum pulled out that much dirt - for a start the Bissell Sweep and Shark (Gtech in the UK) machines are cordless sweepers, so much of the time they'll only remove the top dirt you can see and the rest of the time move the rest of whatever dirt that comes out of the top pile, around.

I do agree that straight suction/suction only can pull out a lot more fine dirt but you also have to bear in mind that depending on whatever type of carpet you have, constant brush roll can damage the carpet you're cleaning.

Last week I ended up washing a carpet with my Bissell upright, after a day when the carpet dried I realised that what my Hoover Slalom bagless upright was picking up were the loose tufts of carpet rather than actual dust.

Using a DYSON!

 


The last time I used a Dyson on carpets was when I put it to test against FANTOM! A DC07 vs Thunder, DC14 vs Furry.the Fantom (esp. The Thunder) WHOOPED both Dyson at deep, down dirt removal.I thought something was wrong with this Dyson I had JUST refurbished, how could this plastic fortune do so badly at what it was designed for, yet make it of the foreign assembly line! The Thunder' s bin FILLED with sand, dirt and the likes. Fantoms were made in Canada, too!

I do not expect much of the dysons. I used to have a Fantom Cyclone XT which outcleaned it and the shark navigator lift away too would outclean the dyson.

I have the Kenmore bagless. Love the purple color. I've used it quite a bit. The very small capacity is somewhat of a pain - prefer the Dyson DC39's capacity to the Kenmore. The Kenmore has a good power nozzle that works well on pet hair and an electric mini power nozzle that works great on the sofa.

The Fantom beating a Dyson is no surprise, better brush roller design. The solid plastic air inlet. Awesome motor. I'm pretty certain the Fantom Thunder was amongst the best bagless cyclonic designs ever made in terms of overall build quality and performance. When I run across these used they largest problem I usually encounter is clogs. I still at least a dozen, maybe 60 have crossed my path, and only one ever had a bad motor. They're almost never beyond repair, usually they are clogged or the cord or switch is bad.

I used my Workshop WS0610VA (aka Ridgid WD0670) shop vac (always equipped with the Ridgid VF6000 HEPA pleated filter & Casa Vacuums HEPA bag [Ridgid VF3503 equivalent] for dry pick-up) with the 'utility nozzle' & it pulled up LOTS of fine dirt (carpet fresh?) before I re-vacuumed the carpeted floors with my Eureka Dial-A-Nap ESP

Had I used the Eureka ESP only or 1st instead of the Workshop shop vac I'd be using up lots of bags & belts; yet still dirt in the carpet (Yes I checked UNDER the carpet after vacing)
