Eureka Powerline Home Cleaning System

Over the weekend I found a Eureka Powerline Home Cleaning System canister at a estate sale for 10 bucks however I got it on half off day so it was only 5 dollars SCORE!!! However it has none of it attachments and is missing one of the two metal wands, the hose is also not in very good shape. I only got it because for one I have the matching ( well not the same color ) Powerline upright and two because for 5 dollars it was a steal. After washing the filter and changing the belt it "works" the suction unit is great and has terrific suction and is fairly quite but the powerhead has some problems in the brush roll one of the bearings is going bad, and I think the motor is going. But besides that and a few scuffs here and there its in pretty good shape. Now from just looking at it it seems to be the BOL model because it does not have a cord rewind, headlight, gas pump style handle, or a swivel hose. I think it might be missing a attachment cover?? But I don't know I will post pictures later.

Very interesting Eureka canister. The body style was known as the Eureka Aero because it basically took the Express body and gave it aerodynamic lines. I think it came after the arrival of the compact Rally. What's interesting about this Powerline is that I am pretty sure it predates the later World Vac canister, and yet it comes with the World Vac power nozzle. Weird. Eureka must have been overlapping sales of the Aero, the Rally and the World Vac all at the same time in the early 1990's.

After doing more research I found this picture on the site of a 1996 JCPenny catalog. This seems to prove my point that mine is the bol as the model on the page has a headlight and is 12 amps. It also shows what eurekaprince said about Eureka overlapping the production of the Powerline and the World Vac. One more question would the serial number on mine mean it was made in 1997?

I'm embarassed to say that I was never very good at using Eureka's serial numbers to determine age. But the JC Penney catalog really locks in the time period for us as the Powerline branding was definitely from the mid 1990's.

The JCP catalog page shows another interesting thing: the unique Eureka Excaliber Power Team canister vac. The main body of the cleaner was made by Volta in Sweden, another subsidiary of Eureka's parent company AB Electrolux. It was the top rated power nozzle canister in Consumer Reports 1993 tests.

Honestly these machines were pretty good for what they were, I have one in the collection and I had another one growing up in the early 90s. The one that I had growing up I wound up with at the age of 13 and the motor finally quit I put a lamb motor in it from a Kenmore and something just wasn't not right. Now I do know that these use lamb motors but the motor that I put in it was a little bit of a higher amperage it later had gotten parted out in the motor was used in another project . Come to think of it I just used my home. cleaning system the other day and I completely have to agree that for a bottom of the line machine it works pretty darn good.

Here's my Powerline upright. It has all its attachments and sounds great, this is still one of my favorite!

The PowerLine 6826 series unit was the BOL model of power nozzle canisters for Eureka. That is correct. The white model as seen in the JC Penney catalog and the blue model you have are the only 2 PowerLine models that I'm aware of.

The body style is a little different from the WorldVac in the following:
-- No swivel hose-- hose mounts where older style canisters did
-- No headlight
-- Cord wrap on base of machine with a swivel hook
-- Non- covered tool storage--- your machine is not missing a cover, it never came with one.
-- No gas pump handle/ no brush roll on/off

Overall they were a decently powered vacuum. They were sold at the same time as the World Vac series-- roughly 1992- 1998. The most common World Vac model was the red colored 6865B, which was the 2nd model up in the line above the black 6856. The 6856 World Vac also had no cord rewind and no headlight. But it had the World Vac body style which had the swivel hose. The red 6865B had a headlight and cord rewind but like the lower model World Vac and the Powerlines, it too did not have a cover for tool storage, nor a gas pump handle, nor a brush roll on/off switch. There were at least 2 other higher end models to the World Vac line which did include gas pump handle and other features. One was the blue from JC Penney and there was a dark green. Not sure if there were others too?

The sparkling glitter SmartVac line replaced the WorldVac series followed by the red 6874 Boss Limited canister. The Boss Limited had the WorldVac power nozzle and body style. It had covered tool storage and it had the newer style curved gas pump handle rather than the rectangular one from the Express canisters. For whatever reason, despite gas pump handle, brush roll on/off and other nice features, Eureka did not put a headlight on this model.

The Eureka Excalibur with the same power nozzle was their near TOL model with variable suction controls. Eureka did come out with the Eureka Europa canister too around 1996 which utilized their VGIII equipped Express power nozzle.

Like the World Vac canister, your World Vac does use the Type V bag. It also uses AR belts and brush roll is the same as a PowerLine/ Bravo/ Boss 12" upright. There are several designs available and you can get a new brush roll for around $16 online through researching various sources: Amazon, Discountcleaningproducts, eBay, eVacuumstore, crucialvacuum, govacuum, etc. Sadly I have not seen a HEPA or near HEPA cloth setup in V style. You probably could glue a Eureka V bag collar onto a Hoover S HEPA bag and that may work, if you were looking to boost the filtration.

Congrats on the great machine. Wands are easy to find through various sources. You could probably get a "new" hose on eBay for around $40. Just study it well to make sure it's a straight connection and not swivel top connection.
