Electrolux's Finest- POST 1980

I really adore the design and features of the newest models Aerus machines. But I have never really gotten to use one in depth, so cant speak much on them.

I've been using my Renaissance for over a month now and now that the hose issue has been ironed out.... I LOVE IT! Super easy to use! Great suction. The cord is long. I don't have to change outlets at all. I didn't think I would use the three speeds but I DO! Especially with the sidekick. If the speed is on HIGH it's too much suction for the sidekick to work well, I put it on med or low and it works great. I have a cat that lays on a blanket and I can use the sidekick on LOW to get all the hair off the blanket without inhaling the blanket.

I like the looks of the 6500 and epic 8000 too

I'm assuming it's a lot like the Guardian; they look the same except for the hepa filter that goes on the Guardian

A vacuum Aerus should aspire to reproduce

My favorite post 1980 Electrolux would be the Olympia One. In my opinion, it was the absolute best Electrolux ever manufactured. The Olympia One was very powerful, built to last, easy to use, dependable, and had my favorite power nozzle. This is a vacuum that Aerus should find a way to reproduce to modern standards. The Olympia One is fairly quiet compared to an Aerus Guardian or Legacy.

The Olympia One was my first brand new Electrolux. Purchased when I moved into my first new home. I still have it and have maintained it in pristine condition. It is my friend. However, it has been regulated to spare vacuum status. My daily driver is a Miele Champagne. The Miele is very powerful, quiet, has superior filtration, easy to use, and much less expensive than a new top of the line Aerus. Did I mention the Miele is quiet and powerful!! Aerus, take note.

Now for my opinion of the new Aerus vacuum cleaners. Overpriced, not user friendly, much too loud (you almost need ear plugs), too difficult to use, I hate the designs, the attachments are not well constructed, and again are MUCH TOO EXPENSIVE.

A great day to all,

Richard

A bit trickier than pre-1980, because there are so many models that share motors and other components, not to mention body style and colors, but I would have to say the various iterations of the Epic 6500. I've come to appreciate these machines lately, after not having been much of a fan before. They're super-powerful, and I quite like the integrated wiring, and, especially, the swivel power nozzle elbow.

I really like many of the post-1980 Electrolux models. I really love the metal bodied UltraLux/Grand Marquis, I love the colors and the overall looks of this vacuum. Plus its easy to service, the body is metal, and they really do last. As for the plastic bodied machines, I really do love my Epic 6000. The 6000 combines the very light weight canister with powerful suction, and it still uses the traditional Electrolux metal wand and sheath system. In the past I've owned the Renaissance and Epic 6500, I actually had the entire light gray Electrolux line up all at once for several years, but they have all since been sold. A little over 6 months ago I purchased a nearly new dark gray (the first model) Electrolux Renaissance and I really do love it. Only think I dont care for is that it could manage with only 3 wheels instead of 5, much like all the Guardian canisters had. And I feel that the wands are too short when using the bare floor brush, but otherwise, overall it really is a great vacuum. It may not have HEPA filtration but if or when the bags start to choke off the suction or have the slightest smell of stale dust, they are cheap enought to toss and replace before they are even close to being full.

Mark, did the seller of your machine send you a new genuine Electrolux hose? I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying your Renaissance!

Bimmer

Yes, he sent me another one. And I think something was wrong with the original one he sent from the start. I mean, it worked....But... I say this because when switched speeds from low, med, or high while the PN power was on, the PN would go to a somewhat lower noise pitch the higher the speed until finally the hose just completely started malfunctioning. The new hose he sent doesn't do this. The PN power stays constant no matter what speed I'm using (not that I would use anything but HIGH speed while using the PN) but it was just something I noticed when messing around.

Since then I've been careful not to let the wand drop and bash the handle into the floor and turn OFF when disconnecting/reconnecting wands and of course not suck up any water and hopefully it won't go bad.

If I had it to do OVER again, I would have probably been better off choosing the Epic 6500 or 8000, they look A LOT like the Renny but don't have the electronics in the hose.

The seller did not want the original hose he sent me back...So it's in the closet. It still works, but you can't changed speeds (it stays on high) and you can't power the machine on/off, only the PN..

I'm pretty amazed at the bags. They are so CHEAP feeling, yet when I changed the bag after two weeks, I got a clean rag and wiped the inside of the bag chamber and there wasn't any dust on the rag. That wasn't the case with my Kenmore. If I used the micro paper bag, there was always some dust in the bin. The bottom of the after filter looks really dirty ..I guess that's carbon dust ?

Sorry: I didn't mean to turn this thread into the in's and out's of a renaissance vac

Post 1980 Lux......

That's difficult as I have several I like! I use my mid 80's Silverado for most of my cleaning, but I also really like the metal body UltraLux/Commemorative Edition luxes too!
