At one time these things were one of the most commonly sold vacuums. I wouldn't say it's rare. Probably harder to find today though since most of them got trashed 8-10 years ago.

I know that machine as a Eureka Maxima ( I always called it the Minima). Definitely don't see as many as I used to... Thankfully!

We got that as a Eureka here in the U.S of A. It was called the Eureka Altima (Maxima is something different) and both the Eureka Altima and Eureka Maxima were HORRIBLE vacuum cleaners. Both were extremely flimsy, had terrible agitation, blew dust everywhere, and both machines had less suction than a cheap hooker. Anything with a Eureka label on it made after 2002 is complete garbage!

Not all Eurekas were manufactured bad after 2002. The Power Plus that I own (The very last Victory) is a really good vacuum. The Optima I also own is one of the best compact uprights that I've ever used. The Contour I would consider as one of Eureka's best bypass bagged upright vacuums. Eureka even had some awesome commercial vacuums including their former sister brand Sanitaire. In fact, the C2094 is one of the best vacuums that I've ever used. I could go on all day but you've probably just had some bad experiences on ones that I would care less about.

I've been in the field for over 10 years now. Currently work as a technician and salesperson at a dealer for multiple brands including Eureka, Royal, Dirt Devil, Lindhaus, Simplicity, and more.
Trying out more vacuums, are you kidding me? I would repair and use vacuums that not only we sell but the ones that we don't even carry. Once every while I would go to other places to try out some new vacuums that I would rarely see come in. But there's alot of Eurekas that I've tried out before. Eureka happens to be my second favorite vacuum company of all time. Not only just their vacuums but their support I would say is top notch because we do Eureka warranty at our store.
The Boss Smart Vac I don't care about. They're awkward for me to use and they're not easy to work on. The 1934B is a good vacuum, but I prefer the higher 7 amp versions better.

The reason why I chose to get the Optima for our trailer was because it was cheaper, works just as well as the Sanitaire, and I would save from not having to buy bugs or filters because I can wash the main filter.
How could you say that the Optima is terrible? Keep in mind that this is only from my preference. You can't really convince someone that it's a bad vacuum. Everybody is different, every home is different, and every vacuum has it's pros and cons. There's no perfect vacuum out there, the perfect vacuum is for someone that feels best to them wither they want something lightweight, an on-board hose, or something that's great for pet hair. I personally like the Optima in our trailer because it's lightweight, it's compact enough to fit in a closet, the hose length is excellent, and it does an awesome job vacuuming.
Now you may not like Eureka and I respect that. That's great that you like the Smart Vac and the 1934B but I still disagree with you that any Eureka made after 2002 is trash.

Hi everybody,
I don’t understand the negativity on some of the threads. No shade or offense to anyone here, I just don’t understand why if someone hates a specific vacuum, they feel the need to post a comment. If someone is over the moon happy or even slightly happy about a vacuum, and it’s one I don’t necessarily like or I disagree with their “Opinion” about it.. I do not feel the need to post and call them out for buying or liking a vacuum.
I don’t like it when ALL of one brands vacuum cleaners are called: Garbage, Junk or Trash, simply because it’s just not a nice thing to do. To each his own and YES you can all have your own opinions and likes and dislikes. But I don’t understand why some members get into arguments or bad mouth vacuum models or brands.. just to say “I think this is garbage or that vacuum sucks or it’s all Trash”.. I guess I just remember what my Mom and Grandma taught me and that’s if you Don’t have anything Nice to say about someone or something.. then Don’t say anything at all.
I LOVE Vacuumland and all the members.. every one of you are interesting, fun and nice people.. this is Not an attack or aimed at anyone in particular, but rather a message that I’d love to see us all get along and be more constructive with our “criticisms” and maybe be a little nicer. Regardless, I just wanted to say I enjoy seeing ALL pictures of Every vacuum posted here and love to hear about them and learn new things. I love when people share thoughts and experiences with their favorite vacuums and so on. It’s just a LOT of fun to be a member of Vacuumland.org and I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone and express my thoughts of maybe trying to put some positive thoughts out so everyone can enjoy this website and each other.
It’s like a big family here at Vacuumland and I know families fight and don’t always get along, but I think we ALL are here for the same reason, we have a passion for Vacuum Cleaners and we want to share that part of our lives with fellow collectors and those who appreciate Vacuum Cleaners as much as we do. From my personal experience with several Eureka vacuums, I can say without a doubt that most of them are pretty bad. Plus, I don’t see how you would prefer an Optima over a Smart Vac. The Smart Vac is superior in every single way. Plus, the fact that you sell and repair Eureka shows me that you are biased towards Eureka.

I agree with HonestJoe. I have no idea how or why the Altima has become a punching bag for a lot of 'collectors'. It is an incredible vacuum with an amazing amount of suction. Yes the screen cone is a pain in the ass to remove and replace, but once you get the hang of the positioning you can get it in there without even looking. The duster is not even half bad either, but I do not like to use feather dusters at all because they stir dust.
For those that say it has poor suction, then explain this photo of mine from 2014. This is what my Altima picked up from my wool area rug after about 2 weeks without vacuuming (my Kirby was broken). It was clean before I started, and it actually clogged up halfway through the rug!
I've never had any suction issues with it. Keep your filters washed after each use and have the height properly set on the carpet and it is trouble-free.

I'm personally not into new and/or bagless vacuums.
But if someone else loves theirs, I'm happy for them.
That being said, when I vacuum later today, I'm planning on trying out my new AND bagless Hoover Air Revolve.
Reviews on Amazon were horrible, but I couldn't resist trying one after seeing the thread about them, and the ridiculously low price!
Regarding the Altima:
I've never used one, but I've always thought it was a cute novelty that it had an on-board duster.
I recently saw one out on the curb, complete with duster, and was going to post here asking what vacuum that was.
If I hadn't been at work at the time, and in the company vehicle, I probably would have picked it up.
As an aside:
Eureka had vacuums named Altima and Maxima?
Both also car models of Nissan.
Is there some sort of connection there that I'm not aware of?

My apologies for being so passionate about the way feelings are posted. I am just a passionate person who Loves vacuum cleaners and enjoy this website. I almost started a new thread as I don’t want to point out anyone of this thread, I was speaking in very general terms about the entire website and the posts I’ve seen with back and forth conflict and arguments, etc. That said, never forget I Respect every single member on this site and LOVE your opinions, pictures, sharing and even complaining and “venting” about frustrations and other Vacuum related topics... BUT I tend to be very protective of people feelings as a child who lived through severe bullying until I graduated hight school. No worries, I’m not fishing for sympathy but explaining my words and posts Always come from a place of Love, even if I sound harsh.
Thanks to those mentioning my comment and I appreciate the kindness. Thank you to huskyvacs for the pictures and filter maintenance tips. I agree and IF you use a bagless vacuum, most of them are ok if you make sure you empty them ever time you use it and keep up on checking the filters and cleaning them when needed. I’m not a professional vacuum repair person, but I do tend to buy vacuum cleaners from Goodwill or the V.O.A. and I clean them up, service them and donate them back to the opposite store I bought them from.. my tiny way to pay it forward Vacuum Cleaner style. Lol. Anyhow, that said I’ve seen Horror Stories of why the vacuum cleaners ended up there in the first place... most sadly are not donated in good will, but donated because something is wrong with it. I’ve pulled out filters caked in dirt and hair, I’ve found missing filters, broken belts and the main thing I find is a simple Clog somewhere in the air path. That tells me some consumers simply buy a vacuum and then the ONLY maintenance their vacuum receives is a bag change and the dirt bin gets emptied when crammed full. Then I also notice those consumers also are the type to “throw” away a vacuum and just buy another. And then the vacuum they tossed away, they write a scathing horrible online review about how it was the “worst vacuum they ever owned” it’s a sad fact. I wonder if those same people never change the oil in their cars or change the filter on their home HVAC Furnace A/C units??
Ok, I’ve rambled enough.. just thought about vacuum cleaners I’ve experienced. Oh and Hey Barry.. I’m so happy you are going to give your Hoover Air Revolve a spin and try it out! I can’t believe I ordered a second and was tempted to buy a third, but that is the Bargain Lover in me and I cannot resist a really low price. Let us know how you like it and have fun! We got it in this version, Called the Electrolux powerglide
Very good machine for its price, I was still working for Electrolux when it was launched, Our sample units were all Eureka badged and two were hand assembled in the USA. The previous Bagless Electrolux Pet lover ( also a Eureka ) was a disaster. we always said for every 10 sold 12 came back. This new model was put through its paces here in SA in the test room and in real life including some commercial work to really test it and it just kept on going.
Over the years back wheels became a issue as did the fact that allot of customers put the filter back in damp ( after washing ) and blew the motor. I still have one of the samples
