I've had this rebuilt Model L for a few years. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to open it up and clean it out. The motor (circa Model G) was in great shape so I decided to save it for another application.

I had one of the new replacement motors being sold for the newer metal tanks, so I modified the Model L mounting flange to accept the new motor. That was pretty easy to do. All I did was use the hole positions from the flange on the new motor as a template. I also fashioned a new gasket and now the thing is like a BEAST on steroids!

However, it is also the most offensive sounding vacuums I've ever owned. LOL! So the moral to this story is that I now have a powerful machine to vacuum out the car. It's too loud to use in the house!

One of my daily drivers is a Hot rod Hoover. I had put a decade 80 motor in a 1060, but It was so pristine that I returned it to original condition. I ended up putting that decade 80 motor into a Hoover model 70 and put a HEPA bag on.
It's always fun to customize a bad, and make it one-of-a-kind!

I have a 1970s Eureka 4420 that I put a Sanitaire motor into -- a perfect fit. Talk about a vacuum cleaner on steroids!

modifying vacuums

I guess these would be known as Frankenvacs. I have never swapped out motors but I love pairing up vacuums with different attachments than what they came with, particularly hard floor brushes and power nozzles. For hard floors I will usually use my Centec ct10 which is a power nozzle designed for hard floors, or my sidewinder hard floor brush, you can clean the floors in about half the time with it.
