Electrolux Model Hi-Tech 2100 & Ambassador III

Following are two groups of Electrolux canister models. Each group is represented by one machine photo on the Product History brochure. Please explain the Model IDs in the brackets below where it says Hi-Tech 2100 and Ambassador III. For instance, was there an actual machine called the Hi-Tech 2100 or was that just the name of the series? Please let me know when the Diplomat, Diplomat LX, Lux 5000, L-E, Model 90, Ambassador, and Ambassador Plus machines were manufactured. Also, were the machines in each group the same color and style?

Yes there was a model called the HiTech 2100. I have the burgundy one. I know I have seen it in other colors as well. There are old posts in the archives about it and I am sure the other models as well.

Thanks for your response. Since I'm not a member yet, I am unable to search the threads and posts. Typically, though, if I google the information it will bring up associated ones. This time I was unsuccessful in finding them, but I'll give it another try.

The High Tech 2100 was an actual model, made in Canada and imported into the USA during the end of the first year of the Diamond Jubilee's run. It was the first plastic bodied canister Electrolux ever. The day I saw it, I commented that it look like it should have said "kenmore" on the side. Electrolux always took such pride in their metal machines. It was also the first "automatic" Electrolux that did not "pop open" when the bag was full. It seemed 'cheap' in a way, by comparison. Soon, Electrolux USA would begin manufacturing the machine in America, and we get all the different versions. They differ, actually, in the automatic features. The lower priced models didn't have the Automatic shut-off, the mid level models had a pre-set automatic shut off, and the deluxe models had a variable automatic shut-off. Other than that, they were all the same machine.

You are always a wealth of information--thanks. So what year was the 2100 introduced...and what year did it begin being manufactured in America? I'm still confused about the Diplomat names in brackets under the 2100 on Aerus' product history brochure. Were the Diplomats a type of 2100?
