Hello all, new member here.
My fiancé has an Electrolux Model G that has been in her family forever. Yesterday it "died." I wasn't around to hear or see it, but according to her she plugged it in, turned it on, the motor started spinning up and then died. Now nothing happens at all when you turn the switch on.
Does this indicate to anyone what the problem may be, or do I need to collect more information to get a proper diagnosis?
So far I have tried the following:
1) disassembled the plug assembly and cleaned up the wiring in there (looks like someone had done some DIY stuff in there before, and some of the wiring was pretty crimped up. Getting this all cleaned up and wired well didn't yield any results.
2) Opened up the back to access the motor compartment. It's very dusty in there, so I cleaned it out as much as I could. I didn't see any issues with the wiring in there or with the wiring attachments to the switch.
3) The motor's rotor spins fine when turned by hand, and the brushes seem to be in contact still, but I don't have a whole lot of expertise with motors so at this point I'm not sure what I'm looking for now.
This vacuum is is very sentimental so I'd love to fix it if possible, even it if means finding a new motor for it. However, I'm not even sure if replacing the motor will fix this, so I'm hoping someone with some more experience could lend some advice on next steps.
Thanks!
