Electrolux award machines

I am not aware of any special machines or colors after the Gold G & chrome polisher until the Commemorative edition of the last metal body Elux tank seen in April 93(I think)monthly contest brochure. It was chrome with black trim and special matching hose as has been seen here before. It was common especially in 'drive' months of April & October to have Elux machines that could be won by a salesman for X number of sales. There were also many other prizes to choose such as TVs,furniture,trips/cruises,cash,etc depending on number of vacs sold in a month. If a salesman won and chose an Elux machine it was awarded out of standard branch stock in most cases with the home office adjusting the inventory numbers as Elux was company owned from the factory to the branches to the vac in a salesman car.

Thanks for the information, Ray and Jimmy.

Regarding the Ultralux Commemorative Edition being a salesperson's award that would explain why they hardly ever appear on online auction sites.

Going back to the Golden G ... that name likely inspired the name Golden J.

Kevin, no the Golden J is the 50th Anniversary Model Electrolux.
Golden meaning 50 year annivesary,, the same as in marriage.
The 50th wedding anniversary of a married couple is the GOLDEN one.
The J in Golden J model Electrolux stands for JUBILEE,,meaning celebration.

So, the Golden J is the Golden Jubilee model, made from 1974-1976. When the Super J came out in late 1976 or early 77, they called it the Super J because it has a larger, and improved motor. The J in Super J still means Jubilee, according to Electrolux its a Super, stronger and better motor than the Golden Jubilee. More reason to celebrate!

10 yrs later, the Diamond J came out,,,Diamond 60 years (just like in a wedding anniversary) Jubilee model. Thus the Diamond J.

My Grandma bought a new Golden J in early 1976,,,it now lives in my collection. And remains my favorite Electrolux of all.

This is fascinating indeed! I didn't know what to think! Clearly that two-headed plug dated it around 1960--but the colour much later as has been said.

Thanks for the information, Brian. Speaking of Jubilee, I'd bet that SC Johnson & Son's Jubilee Kitchen Wax would shine up the Golden Gs, Golden Js, and Super Js nicely.

I found pics of another Electrolux Model GG on Terry Kay's webiste. I'm wondering if there were 500 made of it just like the later black and chrome Model 1521/Ultralux CE achievement award?

Anyway, even though some opine that the golden color is garish, I beg to differ. I think it has that "groovy" '60s and '70s look (making it stylish) along with giving it a sense of dignity (honoring the work ethic).

Don't miss the following items in the pics (source: http://www.theelectroluxman.com/):

1. ivory-colored aqua G-style crevice tool (presumably in the same hard plastic; the tan G's was a soft plastic and slim style)
2. gold-plated wands
3. gold bumper on the combination floor/rug tool
4. gold hubcaps

(Unfortunately there was no power nozzle, special or standard, mentioned or pictured.)

Here are the photo captions that accompany the pics:

"A Brand Spanking New, never been used, 1961 Electrolux model Model G Special Eddition.
It was presented as a sales award to an Electrolux salesman excelling in sales in one months time his given region.

The G has never been used, it's been stashed in a closet since it was presented.
It is Brand New!
The cannister portion is metallic gold, the hub caps on the wheels, the wand sections & the trim on the floor tools are all gold plated.

standard floor & dusting tools that came with it.

Take a look at the gold hubcaps & the Gold Plated Wands---I've have never seen another Limited production G quite like this.

Nice Find for a collector, or for somebody that wants a brand new G to use.

A collector has found this Gold G and it has sold."
