Electrolux Generic vs OEM hoses question

I have read a lot about the Generic hoses being inferior and had a question. The complaints I have read and remember are that the chrome flakes, the handle's electrical connectors fail, the suction valve wear out and the screw holes strip out.

I do not have a generic hose, but wondered, are the handles interchangeable between the Generic and OEM? Especially if you are wanting a vinyl hose to replace a woven hose?

If so, could we buy the Generic for the hose and switch out the handles?

Ideas, comments?

The handles are not I interchangeable. I tried it but the generic has a larger end where the handle connects. Good thought though
Generic also won't fit the sidekick without modifications.

How much does a genuine Aerus hose cost? Is it exactly the same as vintage ones?

I'm actually in the market for a new hose right now, too.

A genuine Aerus hose will run $125 for an electric hose, for the metal, plastic, upright, or pigtail canisters. The straight suction, and Epic hoses have different costs

I reply: Apparently, not all generic hoses are created equal because my Sidekick fits just fine on my generic hose. It's a little more bothersome to use because of the limited swivel but it does work.

Now that is strange, every generic Lux hose I've encountered had to have it's electrical connector modified to fit the sidekick

One advantage the generic hoses have is that they have a switch to turn on and off the power nozzle. Also, the hoses for the Perfect vacuums will fit the metal Electrolux models. Kind of an interesting combination to run my Wessel Werk mini electric brush with an Electrolux 1205, works great though.

Wow. $125 is a lot to put a hose on a machine I paid $7.50 for. LOL.

I'm going to pick up one of Hesco's swivel hoses for $30, probably today or tomorrow. While I'd love to stick to genuine parts, the price difference is just too much.

If anyone is interested, I'll post photos and thoughts when I get it.

If you're patient, you can find a used OEM vinyl electrified Electrolux hose in good shape on eBay for under $30.

been through the wringer on this. The first generic hoses I bought in the 90's lasted and worked OK. Everything in the last five yrs has been a crap shoot. Flaking chrome, air adjustment wheel on the nozzle breaking and very rough pivoting on the hoses that are suppose to pivot.


 


I agree, $125 for a OEM hose on a $20 vacuum is insane. But so is buying two or three generic hoses to last 10-15yrs together. And you can't go by prices for generics on eBay. Same hose could have as much as a $40 price spread.


 


There was a seller on the bay that had a higher priced generic. I asked him if it was US or Asian made. He got really mad and said people were always low-balling his hose prices. Then I got mad and said I wasn't inquiring about a price war, but where the darn thing was made. Before I asked that he kept throwing around the term 'US' and then latter, recanted that he didn't think they were made in the 'US'. ARRRRGGG!


 


So I have absolutely no usable advice on generics other than get some sort of warranty if you can, because they fail rather quickly compared to the originals. 


 


Yes, you can find decent OEM hose on the bay for cheap.....but it's Fool's Paradise to think they are going to last in your DD. They are usually at the end of their service life at best.

I suggest, if you want to get a generic Electrolux hose that will last, that you buy this basic hose in the link that has the metal handle & pigtail cord. Virtually impossible to break the hose handle, still has a suction release valve, & the Sidekick will work with no problem since you have to plug the pigtail into the plug on the Sidekick. Virtually the ONLY way you could break this hose is if you leave the hose on the wand when storing the vacuum....since the hose is made of waxy vinyl material, it will crack & break if the hose is stored on the wand. Or, if you buy the version with the crushproof hose material, it will bend & have a permanent crease. However, don't leave the hose on the wand, & no problem!

Kirbylux77 - the hose you linked wouldn't work for my machine. It has the wrong machine end connection. I need a hose that fits a Super J.

Tried to pick up a new hose from Hesco yesterday. After a long ride home, opened up the box to find that they had removed that item from my order. Not sure why, so I am going to email them today and ask what the deal is. They showed having stock on hand when I ordered.

(As a side note, also very unhappy that they substituted floor brushes for rug nozzles in three accessory kits I purchased. Now I have kits with two floor brushes, no rug nozzles. What am I supposed to do with all these extra floor brushes? Sorry guys, had to vent.)[this post was last edited: 10/14/2016-10:28]

Seriously had thought about doing just that. I'm going to try to be nice though and see how they handle things. I sent an email a little while ago, still awaiting a response. And the tools I did receive are of excellent quality, so I'm hoping if they can finish filling my order that the Electrolux hose might be quality as well.

Okay, I bought one generic...

on Ebay and another earlier version generic was given to me today. The earlier version was pulled from a trade in. He did not offer it to me because he said he was going to strip it for parts. That is what I was going to do.

He admitted that the generics fail electrically. We shall see. Can't beat the deal I got on both if these.

After multiple emails, 3 phone calls, and 2 visits to Hesco,

finally got my hose the other day. I bought their swivel pistol grip hose.


Some thoughts on it:

-The hose itself seems high quality and crush proof.

-The machine end doesn't always want to insert smoothly. It binds going into the machine.

-The hand grip portion of the handle is too small and uncomfortable. Part of my hand ends up behind the grip where the handle flairs outwards.

-The suction relief is a slide instead of a knob.

I think I may have to eventually find a different hose. The grip problem ruins this one for me.

I have to agree...but @$120 it seem ridiculous on an old canister vac. But then the generics seem to be getting worse and worse. They're not coming up with the right diameter and chrome plating on the hose ends. I can't think of anything more maddening other than a premature split.

I have bought two of the vinyl replacement hoses from Hesco. One for the 2100 and one for the Silverado.  They are longer than the originals, don't leak, and for $25 plus shipping are very inexpensive.
