Electrolux AP-100 rewinder fix

I just finished fixing an AP-100 rewinder and I wanted to share what I did.

First I opened the can to see why the cord wouldn't go back in. I found that a part of the spool was broken in pieces (first picture). This is the clear kind of spool.

I recently installed a no-working AP-100 cord rewinder in an AP-200 last week, and i knew that I had spare aprts from the AP-200 rewinder.

So I took the good half of that AP-200 rewinder, the half with the spring, to fix the AP-100. It ended up like an hybrid rewinder (two other pictures).

It fits properly in the AP-100 can.

Neat. It looks like the broken part was cast aluminum? It could probably be welded back together by someone with an aluminum welder and a lot of patience, or a new one machined from stock. Luckily you had a replacement.

I think I see the design flaw already. It looks like that tube shaped part that broke had two slots in it to hold that wingnut-looking thing on the center shaft. Probably square slots/not chamfered or whatever.

It's gray plastic, not aluminium.

"AP" stands for "All Plastic".

Take it up with Aerus. Maybe they'll change it—ha.

I actually contacted Electrolux Group in Sweden to find out what the 'Z' prefix on the older models meant, but no one knew.

Plastic? No wonder, hardly the place to use plastic. Still, I'll bet some clever machinist could make a new thingy.
