Adam, though it grieves me to say that someone is wrong, what has been said by Citreon is very wrong. I know for a fact that late production DC01 cleaners had fins on the cyclones, which is why I said so twice already. If I was in any doubt about it, I would never have said it. I saw them in the shops clearly enough, fins and all.
There were so many subtle changes to the DC01 that dating it is relatively easy. For instance, for many years the tools had the word DYSON printed in capitals and in the old font, long after the new lowercase 1996 logo was used. Later, the tools said 'dyson', this being around 1998, and later still the smaller tools were exchanged for the larger sets used on the Absolute cleaners.
The 13 amp plugs which were round in design were used from about 1996 up until around the end of 1999, but around 1998 the plastic earth pin was changed to metal.
The elasticated "doughnut" idea on the flex was invented around mid 1998 and was used on all new DC01 cleaners (and then later DC04), including those which went back for service. By the year 2000 Dyson were dispensing with the doughnut as it was causing too many new problems. Very late DC01 cleaners will have a square yellow Volex 13 amp plug and no doughnut.
