Dyson DC 14 repair

Hey everyone,

A lot of my friends have Dyson vacuums, all DC 07 and DC 14 models. One of the DC14 clutches went bad and I volunteered to fix it. I bought the new clutch, as well as the tools needed and went to work. What a pain in the tushka! I watched a YouTube video before starting and it looked easy. I got it done, but it was like the thing was fighting me every step of the way. Now that I know better how to do it, the next one shouldn't be so bad. Hope it isn't for a long time though.

Yeah the first time I did a clutch replacement it was tricky but after the first one it becomes really easy

Yeah - getting the knob off is the hardest part without damaging the plastic, the rest is very easy provided you have the right tools - i.e., a torx driver kit.
The clutched models do have the ability for the motor to clutch belts to be changed, but the other belt from the clutch to brushroll can only be changed by dismantling the clutch which is a very fiddly job and requires circlip pliers.
Most old Dyson models with this type of clutch if on the original belts will require attention as the clutch to motor belts usually stretch and start to slip, as they are only very narrow diameter belts.
I prefer the Origin models with no clutch as there is only one belt and its easy and cheap to replace, giving full driving force back to the brushroll.

I have a dc14 in bits as I lost motivation halfway through. That and it needs a motor! They are fiddly
