Dyson DC07 Animal clutch repair success!

Yesterday, my sister and I went over to my mom's apartment; when we got there, her Dyson was taken apart. The reason for this is because she pulled off a vacuum cleaner miracle!

The reason it's a miracle is because it involves the clutch on her Dyson DC07 Animal. I recently posted about how the old clutch broke; we watched a video on YouTube which showed how to replace the clutch, and Mom ordered a new clutch off eBay for only $24. However, she didn't get the special tool to make removing the brush bar easier. But she still managed to remove the old clutch and put the new one on! However, the hardest part was getting the brush bar back on the new belt. She wasn't able to do that, so she had her fiancé come over today to do that.

Overall, it went very well! The brush bar now spins again!! This was the most expensive (26 dollars plus tax) and most laborious belt change we've ever done, though.

I think anybody who has trouble with their Dyson DC07, DC14 or DC33 should definitely perform this repair. As long as you watch a YouTube video, it's simple and worth it! I'm so proud of my mom for accomplishing a task like this!

One more thing...

Yesterday, I suggested that my mom also replace the "permanent lifetime" HEPA filter. Today, she pried off the filter cover, and the filter was filthy! It's packed with carbon dust and smells like dog. So she ordered a new filter from Amazon for $27.

Nice job on the clutch, I've not changed the clutch itself, but I have changed the belt on a dc14, which requires all the same steps as replacing the clutch. Yes it was a major pain, but I was able to do it without the special tool. $27 for a filter?!?! Next time order that off eBay as well, I ordered one once, brand new, for less than $10. Same with the inner filters- less than $10 for the set.

I've seen non-OEM Dyson pleated HEPA filters for as low as $2.68 on eBay from Hong Kong....wondering if anyone has ever tried those or are they too suspect for the price?
