Compact model C2

Hi guys! Need help with my model C2. Apparently there must have been something thicker on the front end of the machine bag cover post because the cover doesn't want to stay closed. All there is now is a pin. I wound a rubber band and a twist tie to enlarge it and it seems to lock down properly.

Can anyone who has one tell me what was originally there? Thanks!
There should be a cloth bag with a rubber gasket that fits tightly around the bag compartment. You can also use a paper bag liner which acts as an extra filter and protects the paper bag. With that the lid should seal enough when latch the lid you

It has been my experience that without the cloth inner bag installed the lid latch is very loose. And obtw a modern Tristar inner bag fits the older models like the Model 1 and C2 for example in the event you want to use it and don't want to risk wearing the original green canvas inner bags they came with back then.
