Cleaning rubber bumpers

Is Turtle Wax compound decent to use on Kirby bumpers for cleaning purposes? I know about McGuire's (sp?), but Turtle Wax is so great on polishing plastics, I wondered if it would be effective on rubber.

they serve different purposes. the rubbing compound is fine abrasive to get crud off adn polish. the meguairs rubber/vinyl/plastic protectant is to preserve and moisten the rubber

OK, but...

would I damage the bumper with the turtle wax?

I clean rubber and vinyl bumpers with paint thinner, just put thinner on a rag and wipe the bumper, all the paint scuffs comes off, than put a coat of Armor All on it will look great.

I would recommend...

Using grade 0 steel wool and 409 all purpose cleaner takes all the scuffs off. Then when all the scuffs are off use Mothers head light polish to polish the bumper. Then rub Armor All on it to protect it. This seems to work the best for me.

jes, no rubbing compound doesnt hurt rubber. and use mequiars not armor all. armor all uses checmicals that dry rot rubber over time.

Simple Green, or

"Goo Gone" would work, too. But, Bon Ami (a NON-abrasive) will work too, without the fear of drying up the rubber. What about Mr. Clean "Magic Eraser"?

Then, there's

"Goof Off"... it's acetone, very strong.

well, I did use Turtle Wax

on both bumpers, and they cleaned up very well. I followed that up with a shot of meguairs, so the copper colors look pretty clean and refreshed. Overall, the 562 looks pretty good, but I may decide to return to sanding if I could find a good electrical tool for this. Hand sanding really stresses my hands.
