Penncrest badging

Thanks for the pics Tom! I know at one time Penney's had constellations with their badging, at what point did they change to Eureka's? Any thoughts on why? It looks like they would've gone with one manufacturer for their whole line. Did they offer the portable/slimline before switching to Eureka?

Pennys switching.....

It seems that Pennys started carrying Eureka canisters sometime in 1966 under the Penncrest label. My catalog fropm them that I have at hand is a "Fall Winter 1967" and has one shown in there for around $40.00 including the Vibra-Beat; as well as the full line of Hoovers including the famous "Cord Reel Convertible" retailing for $64.87.

I do not own a scanner I wish I did I have a whole mess of catalogs here that I could scan too.

Penneys basically used Hoover and Eureka quite indiscriminitely after that point really never settling on just one brand. And Hoover built cleaners from later years had Eureka style boxtop bags as well...

Wards was the same way especailly after their ill fated "Electric Avenue" debuted in the 1980's sometime. Before that it was mainly Eureka with a minor smattering of Hoovers. Usually the PowerDrive models were Hoover....as well as their Jiffy Vac's and Portapower and scrubbers

And Sears...thank god that they kept their basic manufacturer's around until the late 80's when lots more plastic junk started to appear!

My three copper pieces for the post...

Chad
