British hoover purepower. In the usa!

I recently received a brand new hoover purepower pu-2121 from a good friend in England, in exchange for a hoover convertible. The machine is currently out of service due to the fact my 36 lbs transformer hasn't arrived yet. Once i can run it, i will make a video. It's actually quite nice too i'm probably the only person in north america in a suburban home, who has one.

Overpowered, poorly made & weak upright mechanism, noisy - I could go on but I don't want to rain on your parade, which I fear I've already done... Sorry!

Well said JM! Do yourself a favour when you do get yourself a transformer and invest in ear plugs too. Word of advice - gently tap the push down handle release pedal - never use brute force as the pedal is one of the first things to break and if you want to make it easier to push, select a higher height setting to avoid the "pushing potatoes-in-a-sack" feeling. Again, gently tickle the height adjuster slider as this can break off too.

Are you sure your house wiring is up to the 2.1 Kilowatts in one lump? Unless you have a 20 Amp breaker on the circuit that you intend to use it on, that thing's going to be popping fuses, I remember my 1.8 Kilowatt Purepoower dimming the lights when it powered up, can't imagine what the 2.1KW is like on powerup........ :S

Dunno why you need a transformer though, the average american home has a 240v service, usually connected to the dryer & water heater, just make up an adaptor between the US style 240v plug and the UK one on the PP, and vac away, though you might need an extension cable given that they're usually far form the living spaces...

Talking of powerful Vacuum Cleaners, I do remember when we had our awful HOOVER Dust Manager with a 2100W motor I believe, the lights almost went out on the initial power up.

werent there two versions of this unit New model made to a cheap price and a older better model but they look the same , I have worked on a few here and although they look the same earlier versions had a better brush bar and felt moe sturdy, the last one i worked on had the most rubbish brush bar I have ever seen on a proper hoover looking more like something from china. Interestingly all the models I have worked on here have good quality amatek motors in them.

take any 2000watt cylinder vacuum with a longitude mounted motor, Bypass the electronics and soft start . switch it on and whatch it barrel roll on your floor. The torque from the motor is just to much

Ha ha, I do hate an overly loud Vacuum Cleaner!

Incidentally my kettle is 2100W which initially surprised me when I saw the rating sticker, but I suppose if it weren't as high it would take as long as my Beko washer to heat water!

It does dim the kitchen lights, if they are on at the time.

Kettle I have one of these Morphy Richards glass ones that light up blue when on . also a 2200watt its actually insane. and it doesn't seem to boil any faster than my older 1500watt one. does look cool though

The Hoover DustManager is the same as a PurePower, but with a bagless unit fitted into the front rather than having a bag chamber... :S

Incidentally, that clearance store had a couple of dustmanagers, one in a sorry state (probably used, abused and returned as NFFP (Not Fit For Purpose)), the other clean and shiny, but still 2.1 Kilowatts a piece...

I do not condone violence to Vacuum Cleaners, but the Purepower/Dust Managers are the exception.

"Loud is one thing, its the high pitched whine that some make that drives me nuts." Oh that's so true! My '04 Panasonic MC-E8011 isn't especially loud considering some cleaners made these days, but the high pitched ear piercing sound it makes on full power makes me cringe.

I think all I did with my PP was just dismantle it and drop it in the recycling bin (saving parts I wanted to keep for spares), before moving, I found that the bearings from it's brushroll fitted the brushroll in the Vax quicklite I had, so they went in there, the power cable went onto my Junior U1104, and I still have the hose somewhere, dunno what I'll use that for, if anything, I hate stretch-hoses...

As long as you keep one hand on the Vacuum Cleaner so it doesn't act like the Vacuum Cleaner version of Christine, stretch hoses are great.

The one on my Turbopower goes all the way to the top of the stairs with the cleaner left at the bottom.

I dont mind them either, the one on my dc40 is less springy than other models, I can walk a fair distance from the machine without t following me. like with most modern conveniences there are positives and negative sides, for me in my household the positives outweigh the negatives.


 


If you use them correctly they are great, you can't treat them like a normal crushproof hose.

I actually quite like the design of the Purepowers.

I just wish that Hoover/Candy would fix the weak points on them, namely the weak chassis that can't handle the forces of the release pedal. Also the slim brushroll - God alone knows what their idea was with that design. Oh, and variable suction would be useful too.
