Gary,
I buy items I like, even if they are a bit over priced. It's only a true bargain if you like it.
The Hoover is in fine condition, showing the seller cared for it, and wanted it to go to an appreciative new owner. A great piece of History. Enjoy it, and don't let it collect too much dust, except inside it's bag.
I almost bought my mom that very Hoover, back in 1979, but opted for a Eureka instead, as that was the brand we had owned before. Yes, I got her the Brandywine model 1279 I still have.
My mom was an avid collector and reseller of Depression, Roseville glass, as well as Hall (Ronald Reagan tea pots), and Homer Laughlin china. Also Fostoria glass, Jeanette, American Brilliant crystal, old Imperial, etc.
I paid almost twenty dollars the other day for a Ralph Lauren glen plaid pattern crystal vase. That was 30% off at the resale store on senior discount day. I also paid 6 dollars for a 24% lead crystal bowl from the former Yugolslavia. It may be worth only ten dollars, but it has history, and the original sticker from the Zajecar glass factory which closed in 1990 when the Bosnian war broke out.
