Well for a fact the 850 watt to 1000 watt Sebo X1 is quieter than any Hoover Turbopower 2 will ever be. 61 decibels compared to Hoover's quiet 72dbl claim for the TP2? Sorry I agree with SEBO there and the TP2 with auto sense gets even louder when it goes to the highest mode. Not one I'd choose to vacuum late at night for fear of waking everyone up.

As for the "silly" computer control, well it seems to find favour with a lot of professionals - note I don't say vacuum cleaner collectors because there's a band that either love or loathe the system and you can pick up the G2/Essential G1 UK market models with the manual height control that offers more than 4 height settings of the TP2.

Also because of the "silly" computer control system, it is effortless to push compared to the "bag of tatties" on the TP2. The Hoover hose is also similar but the SEBO wins back for being far more instant, easier to remove clogs and has a brush roller that comes out at the touch of a button...plus a long life belt - far easier to rely on than having to fish out the tool box when the belt on the TP2 goes.

Oh I dare say I could go on - the SEBO can clean hard floors without damage as it lacks beaters or activators. There's also a long cord and the thermal cut out comes back on due to those "silly electronics" compared to the normal 40 or more minute "waiting time" should your Hoover vacuum burn out/thermal trip.

Since we are on this rant, I will give my view, first of all this is a silly argument to begin with as the Sebo Xseries is a commercial desined machine and the Turbopower 2 is a domestic designed machine, the Sebo may obviously be cheaper and quicker to maintain but it has to be to stand a chance in the competitive, commercial market which you have to remember, Sebofan.

I can not speak for the older Sebos but I just tried my mothers X4 against my Turbopower 2 Autosense and the noise level of the Sebo is about the same as the Hoover on the Turbo/boost/highest setting but it was DRAMATICALLY quieter on the low setting. I do prefer the noise of the Turbopower 2, it purs very nicely along the carpet.

The Sebo Xseries and Turbopower 2 both have ABS construction but the Turbopower 2 in my opinion has better tools and it doesn't fall over as easily when using them, I think the Turbopower 2 cleans better because it has a much better brushroll, the brushroll in the Sebo is good but it is no Activator.

The Sebo does have a longer 10 meter cord and easier access to clogs, etc but again we have to remember it is designed for a commercial setting. Needless to say the Turbopower 1000 does have an 8 meter cord, over the Turbopower 2 6 meter cord.

The smooth, soft Light of Turbopower 2 are packed with 800 watts of unrivalled carpet cleaning power, it sets new standards in safety and all major plastic components are identification stamped for future recycling.
Designed for ease of use, Turbopower 2 has an instant flex release, easy access on-board tools and a triple stretch hose which is simple to disconnect for cleaning. It has a bag check indicator, easy access to the bag, soft touch door release and carefully balanced carrying handles front and back.

Turbopower 2 has four height settings to cope with every type of flooring and a soft touch foot control for selecting tools use and storage, low profile or it's normal operating position. Thanks to it's new airflow system, Turbopower 2 is 50% quieter and it's compact design and narrow cleaning path make it highly manoeuvrable, even in the tightest spaces.
It's five level filtration system includes an electrostatic microfilter to trap very fine dust particles and a unique carbon filter to reduce odours, the air expelled from the Turbopower 2 is cleaner making all models ideal for allergy or asthma suffers.
The unique Hoover activator beats and sweeps your carpet, lifting the pile and releasing embedded grit and the safety edge to edge cleaning brushes are now 35% longer cleaning closer than ever before. With the powerful new dual fan motor, increasing suction by 180% Turbopower2's on-board tools are almost three times more powerful than previous models for even better performance, whatever the job. Turbopower 2 makes light work of stairs, shelves, curtains and upholstery.

The revolutionary Autosense system monitors the level of dirt in your carpet and automatically adjusts the power, grit particles strike a tiny sensor and an electronic brain boosts power where it's needed, and then returns Turbopower 2 to it's economy setting, saving energy.
Also unique to Hoover is Permabag System 2 which means no more bags to buy, as easy to fit and remove as a paper bag it empties straight into the bin and is fully washable, made of new Permalon a porous plastic fabric, Permabag System 2 is tough and durable and meets the stringent filtration standards of Turbopower 2.

Not Quite, Alex, sorry.

Some of you may forget I added brochure photos and scans of Hoover's brochures on here.. So instead of using the marketing speak, lets put the fantasy into reality.

The Turbopower 2 is no longer made and it was heavier - we've all commented in the past on that when compared to the lighter Purepower - and I miss the TP2 and 3 series BECAUSE the Purepower has never been as successful as the heavier precursor vacuum. But therein, you trade up on lighter plastics, higher motor power AND the addition of optional HEPA filtration.

The Sebo X1 Automatic is no longer sold "NEW' because it was replaced by the X1.1 and X4, with a bigger X5 floor head model. X1.1 etc still use similar components and design led by the original X1.

However I have had three Turbopower models - a U2464, the yellow "special edition" 900 watt TP2, and the U212 red TP3.

Despite the various differences in "power," I found marginal improvement with the 1000 watts compared to the base level 800 TP2. However, lets consider the facts!

1) Neither TP2, or 3 can get under a flat/low lying furniture successfully because if you look at the front of the floor head when laid flat, it doesn't actually touch the carpet. Not much use then to get the dust under your bed at the top - the SEBO X can lay flat with the brush roll hitting the carpet at all levels.

2) The TP2 hose was inclined to clog - the bigger diameter hose on the TP3 eradicates that design fault - this has also been discussed on here with previous threads. The SEBO hose on the other hand is bigger than that of Hoover anyway despite the added extra diameter on the TP3.

3) The Permabag option was a joke. It wasn't properly engineered and so far as many have found on here, the system is liable to leak dust. So much for Hoover's so called 5 layer filtration system- what help was there for allergy sufferers then?

4) The SEBO X series has a hospital graded filter as standard and later added a proper charcoal added filter for pet owners - HOOVER didn't start doing HEPA filters for their uprights proper until the Purepower came along. Personally I found that the 5 layer system was good but when it came to pet hair, it was inclined to become stale and stinky after a while.

5) Increasing "suction by 180%" when taking previous models into consideration isn't a wonder when TP2 and 3s were all clean fan compared to the lower 575 watt (and even lower) dirty fan Turbopower uprights that either depended on being an upright alone or had to use the pan converter fitted at the front of the floor head with optional tools.

6) The SEBO X1 is NOT a commercial upright Alex - it was designed FROM SEBO's commercial uprights FOR the domestic market. You can find that information if you look at the SEBO profile document available on their German website.

As for finding that the X4 is noisier - no wonder, it has a 1300 watt motor compared to the TP you have. Now, compare it to an X1 Automatic original and you may find the Hoover is louder as I have done.

Sebofan...I have absolutely no idea what you are on about...

Here is the Turbopower 1000 in it's low furniture position, not touching the carpet...Is it?!

I have used it to clean under my sisters bed that is not much higher than the Turbopower 2's body and it did just fine, of course the Sebo will, it is as thin as a piece of paper.

I have found the performance of the Sebo to be no better than the Turbopower 2 despite the stronger suction on the Sebo, no it doesn't clean hard floors well but neither does the Sebo really, fine dust yes as it has that squeegee to stop "spit back"  but bigger particles, no, it just pushes the stuff around which means you would have to clean the mess up with the hose which would be near impossible with the Turbopower 2 as it's hose is no where near as convenient...

Don't get me wrong, the SEBO isn't uber perfect - yes it does fall over if the hose is pulled roughly - but then I think that's a problem with most uprights - I prefer the wand at the top anyway -so much faster and less bending generally. However, I felt that after ownership of many years with the Hoover hard box uprights, my mind moved on and much prefer the soft bag uprights as they are classically looking to the eye, have oodles of style and apart from the Junior U1104 (another favourite of mine) the metal bodied ones last a lot longer.

I also found that whilst I had trouble getting the TP's under the bed for the floor cleaning, the Junior with its soft bag managed it - but as you know it lacks the extra built in filter and is far more basic and thinner.

After years of owning a lot of uprights, I still have a soft spot for the quieter more basic X1 Automatic as I do for Hoover's TP2 and 3s and the classic ones before that. The SEBO just does what it says on the tin and unlike a lot of brands, the claims from Sebo match my own findings. Id rather have an upright that go "to all areas" in the home when required and its good to see that SEBO still sell the X1 through the newer models.
