Attachments for Little Hoover Companion Canister Vac

I have been considering buying the new Hoover Platinum Bagged Upright vac for my mom. It seems like a great performer that would be easier for her to use because it's lightweight and easy to manoeuver.

But, like so many vacs on the market today, TTI has really "dumbed down" the set of attachments you get with the companion mini canister. I was in Sears on Friday looking at the pair of vacs, and did a test to see if I could buy better attachments to use with the little canister. To my shock, the diameter of the hose end was really tiny and did not match the normal diameter of standard vac hoses, wands and tools. I tried to put a Miele upholstery nozzle onto the end of the Hoover hose, and it was way too big!

My question for you all - do you know if TTI offers an adapter for this little Platinum "over-the-shoulder-hand-bag" canister so that it could take other attachments?

thanks Bob - I'll go back to Sears and see if the Hoover hose will take a Kenmore dusting brush or crevice tool. For some reason, I still think the Hoover hose has an unusual, not regulation, diameter. I'll let you know.....

Hey guys, since you are discussing the canister, to keep me from starting a new thread, what do you think of the upright that it goes with? I bought the bagless platinum only because it was at a store where they sell sears returns and displays. I got it for $180.00 and at that time they were still $449.00 and it was new. I usually dont like bagless but I had to try it. It was one of the best new vacuums I have ever used...on the carpet. It really deep cleaned very well, had a permanent belt, and the cyclonic system actually worked. It was a cinch to empty and I know it seperated the dirt right because there is a white filter on top of the canister and it never got the least bit dusty. I was surprised at the sound. I thought it would be a screamer like so many others but it had more of a low kind of tone to it. Quite pleasant. Kind of like a concept II, NOT a concept I, lol. The only place they screwed up was the attachments, or rather lack of. This thing had great suction, and was supposed to be there best and you get one permanently attached wand, a supposed dusting brush that you could maybe clean something scratch proof with and a half a crevice tool. NO turbine powered tool and virtually nothing with a wide enough path to vacuum stairs or a sofa cushion. What were/are they thinking? I not that big on using upright attachments anyway since I am mostly a canister fan but still, they should either be there or not be there. Anyway, other than that, and a small area of the bin that you cannot clean, I loved it, then sold it to a friend for $175.00+her 2000 G6 kirby with all attachments and shampooer that were unused. It was mint and just needed a light polish. She said it didnt pick up as well as it had been on her one area rug and she liked the hoover. The problem was she bought belts online by the sackfull and she had bought the older softer ones like you use on a sanitronic, so they werent strong enough to turn the brushroll when the machine sucked itself to the rug. New proper belt, perfect. Still ROFL.

I almost forgot my original question before I went rambling. How bout the lightweight platinum? Also curious about the canister, thanks

Chris - the new lightweight Hoover bagged Platinum is an excellent upright vac - better than the similar bagged "motor first" Orecks and Riccars. Consumer Reports really liked it: their recent test gave it an "excellent" for carpet cleaning, "good" for noise level, "very good" for emissions control, "very good" for handling (it weighs only 13 pounds) and excellent for pet hair removal. It only costs USD300 too!

Trying it out at Sears, I found it to be really comfortable to use and very lightweight to carry. It's just too bad that the companion canister has a horrible set of tools....the bare floor brush seems to be the only valuable attachment provided...... :-(

But if you set aside the canister for only bare floor use and maybe cleaning the car, the upright itself may be worth the $300!

Thanks for the info. Isnt it funny that you sometimes cant get a good floor brush on even a bigger canister and you may get decent small tools, but on this you get a decent floor brush and worse smaller tools. Its almost like whoever decides what will be included in a particular vacuum package has never vacuumed in their life. Like the constellation (new) for instance. Wonderful floor brush, Full size soft dusting brush, full size upholstery tool (though a little stiff). Even hoovers best dont have tools like that. I wish they would bring it back once more. They could do all different colors, maybe have a regular one with either a straight suction carpet tool or the turbo nozzle, and a better model with an electric power nozzle, maybe like the one on the dimension (my fav), but please, NO CLEAR HOSE. If you use it much it just shows all the dirt.

The platinum bagged is a great vac on med to deep pile....and though it kills me to admit it...a better deep cleaner than my riccar rsl...seems to have a more soid feel to them...a great vac for the money and the shoulder can is none too shabby either...a good bang for the buck versus the compitions duo..just my view.
