Another Hitachi. The CV975D

Just curious...where did Hitachi make these vacs? Japan? Or was it in Spain like the UK's Panasonic uprights? Did Hitachi contract production to another company?

Yes Jamie. He said the CV50 was built in Japan. That model only ran for a few years during the early part of the 1980s. So from the statement made, it could be taken that all other models came from Singapore.

Oh deary me we're getting a bit confused...

I thought he meant the CV975D was made in Japan and later was made in Singapore, which confused me since my Singapore made CV2550 is 24 years older!

Chris

fab, nice to see one of these again, one of those many childhood vacs of mine. Mum has a lot to answer for making mechase allthese cleaners of hers. One day Il have an example of each one.

Always loved this one brilliant cleaners and solidly built.

I have one of those Hitachi Powerhouse models - obtained it in a sorry state and had to do a total strip down and cleanup, but its working great now - pity I had to butcher the small tamperproof screw in the back to get the back off to access the motor though - what a PITA to do, but the motor is encased in foam and this was overrun with dirt and hair. Its the only upright I have with a cable rewind mechanism - and very sturdily built - it has a substantial beater bar which really grooms my carpets, and exhausts from the side of the dustcontainer. Pity its missing the dusting brush and crevice tool, but I cant have it all can I. This is a lovely forest green CV780DC and I have no idea how old it is, but would estimate late 90's:

And the bag compartment - notice they used a bag slide along the top of the open bags - re-useable paper bags. This model was made in Singapore BTW.

Steve, I might have a spare dusting brush and crevice tool for that machine lurking about if you're interested? I will have a route around when I get home.

Yours is the earlier 1000w model from the second run of these style (the first run were all grey). My guess is about 1997/98.

Chris - yes I would be interested if you maybe want to list them on Ebay and let me know when you do so I can do a buy it now for a reasonable price. I always try to only go for cleaners with all their tools, as I think they just arent complete without them, but then, the Hitachi only cost me £10 and she was about to throw it out if it didnt sell. It reminds me of the Turbopower 2 in shape, and thats what I'm gonna get next, but I want the one with the autosense and permabag if I can find one locally, but the best things come to those who wait lol
Plenty of Turbopower's come up on ebay but only the base models with no bag full indicators, and that just wont do for me. Plus so many sellers wont post either, and thats a pity. Am more of an uprights fan, but am always scanning ebay for bargains, and if a Hoover sensotronic comes up near me, may be interested in them to.
