So this weekend, me and my friend drove all the way down from Yorkshire to Crawley for some vacuum related madness. Came back with a few treasures.

First up are 2 vacuums from my childhood that I have been after for a very long time. The Hitachi CV50D and the Panasonic Jetflo MC-660U. A friend of my Mums had the CV50D with all the tools when I was a kid. It was the only 1 I ever saw and I can still remember it like it was yesterday. This one is in need of a new cable, but that will be sorted over the next few weeks. The bumper has seen better days too.

The Jetflo belonged to a lady on our street. Again, she had all the tools for hers, but she moved away when I was young.

They look pretty awesome together - cream and brown 80's galore!

Hitachi CV50D

Great haul there Chris, would love to see a seperate thread with pics all about the Hitachi, one of the best vacs of the 80`s IMHO, has everything you need , great suction, cord rewind, handle unlips for storage, beater groomer, switch off brush roll etc ... We sold them through Agri Electrics, thay had a load of b grades (ex catalogue returns - Buy Try or return) nothing wrong but scuff damage, we could get these with staff discount and a £10 trade in for £30--- bought 5 for the family, alas not are still around, could kick myself!!!

Would love to know what you think pitched against the panasonic??

Cheers, Mike

Hi Mike,

The CV50 is still going through its clean up. The bumper is quite badly damaged in places and it needs a new cable. As soon as shes all cleaned up and running perfectly, I'll start a new thread for it :)

All the best,
Chris

A U800 just like mine, with the same hose and extension tube! So that means my hose and tubes must be the originals, unless that one has had the exact same replacements, which I doubt.

I'd go 250 miles any day if I could get all those Vacuums!

Although the extention tube came high up the cleaner when stored, I am sure there was only one tube. It was designed so that the upholstery tool fitted onto it for storage purposes. In other words they economised the design.

So the U800 came with the two tubes I have but only one was meant to be attached, with the other put away until required ?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about how the upholstery tool comes into the equation!

Sorry. As I remember it, there was only one tube. The upholstery tool was supposed to sit on the end of it when not in use. That was the storage point for the tool. It had no place on the cleaner. Then again, I do recall seeing photographs of the cleaner which showed the tube longer than just one tube length, though not as long as your tubes as it should not be taller than the handle.

Well they look different from each other as the top one has ridges. If it didn't originally have two tubes, someone has located another from somewhere. As it stands, you could take your eye out pushing that cleaner around :)

They both have ridges, it's just the light in the picture.

"As it stands, you could take your eye out pushing that cleaner around :)"

Yes, I did think about that when I first bought it, ha ha!

Jamie, the hose is original but the extension tube isn't. The one on mine was a spare I had that originally belonged to a Lux Twin Turbo. The U800 originally came with a single, slightly longer extension tube and the upholstery tool sat on top of it.

Incidentally, I went 350 miles to get all these lol
