Lighting up

I was not sure as there appears to be no obvious way to get the lens cover off without forcing it. Perhaps Jack, you might have some details amongst your technical literature, but you have a deal on waiting until next week

Jack,

I have owned four Turbomasters and the lens cover does not come off. The bulb is a push pit, like on the Turbopower, but to change the bulb, the whole hood needs to be removed.

I will see if I have an instruction book to show the bulb replacement instructions.

Alright, I'll rise to the challenge!

How to change a Turbomaster bulb:

1) Grasp lens at both rear-edges.



2) Pivot forward gently.



3) Lift off. You now have unobstructed access to the bulb socket. Please note, this procedure can - and is supposed to - be performed with the machine full assembled, but mine's currently in pieces, and I didn't have time to assemble it for the sake of 3 photos.

NB. Underneath the lens, you'll find the slider which illuminates the different numbers as you change the height setting. Make sure this is lined up with the stalk on the selector when you slot the lens back in.

Your method works, but it is not the official way to change the bulb according to the instruction book.

My Turbomaster instructions must be at my Mum's house, but I have taken a quick snap of the Turbopower headlight replacement instructions. The method is almost identical, but there are more screws to remove on the Turbomaster.

Alistair can choose which method to use. Your way may be faster, but I certainly wouldn't do it that way and risk damaging the lens cover, which I suspect would be very hard to replace if it were damaged.

TurbopowerPaul will probably have the instruction book, so perhaps he can confirm that the official way to change the bulb involves removing the whole hood.

The first picture shows how to remove the bass plate, exposing the hood screws.

The bulb on the Turbomaster is the same push fit design. You do not remove the height right control before lifting the hood as on the Turbopower.

I have chosen the method I will use, and thats to let Jack do it - whichever way! There are more than enough examples of Jack's handiwork around to convince me that he could do a FAR better job than I could, especially as it appears to be quite a rare version, which I dont want to screw up.

I wondered about the height levels on the lens cap, and now I know. It seems curious that they used a "mechanical" means of achieving this, although I suppose its simple enough. Its reminiscent to me of the bag full light that used to be on the Hoover Starlight, which seemed to be something of a "Heath Robinson" as well,

Well, I do it my way - much quicker and simpler, and I can't actually see how anyone could damage the lens, unless it got dropped it once it was removed.

The instruction book was written for the general public. We're Hoover-folk

The Turbomaster height control looks great when it's illuminated.

It's a shame yours is missing the air freshener cover/slide control. At the top of the bag door on the inside, there should be a black holder to take one of the round air fresheners.
