Air-Way instruction book.

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

Hi Vacbear.

I have the very first model, the Sanitary Ststem of 1920. It's a great machine. This instruction book shown here must be the model F of 1928. I also have the Scout which was introduced in 1936. Here's a look at both of mine as well as the other early models.

Nice Post !

Very nice post Alex. Grew up with a model 66 and never saw the older models
until I join the VCCC. Saw lots of model 55s but never saw the 55A ( Purple ? )
until joining the VCCC.
So thank you for sharing the instruction manual !

Thanks Norm.

As my interest in the vacuum cleaner began when I was only 2 years old, I've spent the last 60 years acquiring material. Starting selling for Electrolux in 1968, and then for Kirby in 1975 produced a lot of information. In the summer of 1980 I began digging patents at the Chicago public library, and acquired 3 patent books. Electrolux, Hoover and Kirby. I also wrote introductions for these patent books. Though revised several times, my history of Electrolux was first printed that summer (1980).

My trip to Indiana last month, let me bring back several boxes of paperwork, like the picture shown here. Histories on above mentioned brands, my patent books, pictures, and most of the newsletters I published for the V.C.C.C. from January 1983 to 1993. At this time I was starting to burn out and made Charles Richard Lester editor and publisher. In May of 1995, Tom Gasko took over as our first club president and I retired from the club. 12 years was long enough, it was time to enjoy a new life in San Diego. California.

For the past few weeks I've been scanning the data I brought back, though it's only the tip of the iceberg! In a series of threads I'll be posting instruction books. Everything from Air-Way to the remote non electric machines of 1911. So tell me what your interest is. I have some very rare stuff that won't fit in this format. Next month I'll get a new computer and program it to scan in stuff that won't fit now.

My reason for starting the V.C.C.C. was to provide info to all who are interested in the vacuum cleaner, and other forms of floor care equipment like carpet sweepers and so on. With the boxes of material, I can do just that.

Thanks for the scans, Alex. I remember that the version I had of the instruction book had a section on eradicating chicken lice!

Hi John.

How I wish I knew where Craig Long is now. Wow was he a wealth of knowledge. He could recite the entire instruction book of any brand. If you recall, he flew from Buffalo to Chicago with an Air-Way in his lap. Refused to let them put it in cargo for fear the airline would damage it. I still have that Air-Way! When I think of the people that were our early members! Most of the paperwork you and I used is now here and I'm scanning.

I was hoping to make the convention but money is far too tight. I have to save to bring my machines from our original club headquarters this September.

As for my instruction books, I plan to share what I have. Coming up will be an Air-Way model 77.

Take care,

Alex Taber.
