I've had this Sunbeam Floor Conditioner for YEARS, And it's been merrily scrubbing the tile for the past 50 years.

However, I went to once again scrub with glee, Only to be meet with no sign of life.

The last time I used this cleaner was last week, And it did sound as if slowing down, The poor thing's Carbon brushes must be gone. She's tarnished and dirty, but still got the job done well, every time.

I'll leave her in retirement, With a Hoover Floor-A-Matic to hopefully take her place.

And,

My model 12 Mixmaster....=)....

When i was a little kid, maybe no more than 4 or five years old. My grandparents ( the ones that live here in KS, We lived in Coon Rapids MN at the time), had one in there garage on its bumper between the wall and there deep freezer, i remember it very well because of the toggle switch in the handle being like moms Convertible. Little did i realize it was that Sunbeam. I would love to find another. seeing the ad, and the fact that it was referred to as 50 years old, im guessing that model was from what??? 1961 1962ish?

The Hoover Floor-A-Matic was one of the company's best kept secrets. I just used mine about a week ago on the kitchen floor. Wonderful little machine; you'll love it! They were made up until about 2000, when the Floor Mate came out, the FAM was discontinued.

Where they really?

@hoovercelebrity-I thought they where discontinued DECADES ago, Not just 13 Years! Do you have any example of the newer models?

@GottahaveaHoover- I new you would chime in with that!

I was, However, Quite HAPPY with my SUNBEAM, But will be looking forward to the HOOVER Floor-A-Matic.

@1926700- We have an old Sunbeam mixer, just like the one pictured. It's an family heirloom, And sitting in the bottom of our Kitchen Cabinet.

Speaking of the Floor-A-Matic, was Hoover the only brand that made the type that vacuumed up the water after scrubbing? It's the only one of which I am aware, anyway.

I find it hard to believe that Aerus hasn't added that feature on its Floor Pros or that other companies such as Kirby haven't done so.

Ah, such a trusted and worthy tool, I could not leave it disabled. Even if I retired it I would not be able to sleep unless I had it working as it should or knew I was in the process of making it so. Fix that little gem even if you don't plan to use it again. It deserves that much for all the service it has given you.

Tortoise guy,

You're right, but where would carbons even be found today? John Long, should you be reading this, I am happy with my HOOVER! The Sunbeam's replacement is a Penncrest polisher (the PenneyPolisher!!!!

). It's scrubbing along fine in it's place until the Sunbeam returns from the grave (Errhhmm, The Barn!

Sunbeam

I love anything Sunbeam. Their motto used to be built with integrity, backed by service. Now it is here is a piece of crap that cannot be repaired. It hurts my heart. It is the brand I grew up with, sold and we had a repair service here in green bay.
So sad...................

Sunbeam,

I love them too, the brand they smack on cheapo appliances is not the same. The MixMasters got UGLY!!!!! Not all of their stuff is junk, though. The only modern toaster I have is a Sunbeam, and it's not the worst toaster I've met!

What is the difference between waxing and polishing? Are two different products involved? Is that still the case with the new synthetic waxes and polymers? Until now I thought they were the same task.

In another thread I recently read the unit (can't remember which one it was) provided scrub/wax brushes (dual purpose), polishing brushes, and buffing pads.

Please educate me.

P. S. Tom, Does the Vacuum Museum showcase "floor conditioners", (scrubbers/polishers/buffers/shampooers) as Hoover called them, along with vacuum cleaners? If so, please post some photos with annotations identifying them. If not, I have a mind to open the first Floor Conditioner Museum (taking for granted that another doesn't already exist)!

Have you tried to get brushes? I have to believe a motor winding shop could find brushes for it. I can buy brushes for over forty year old Lamb motors with no problem at all. Fix that little guy. All the service he gave you he deserves it.

that reminded me of a story,

That one of my military friends told me once!

So him and his crew were stationed in their barracks. Their officer walks in and tells them to wax the floors (likely in that typical drill sergeant style!). To wax the floors, they took the heavy-duty, military-grade blankets and used them to apply and buff the wax! Those floors SHINED!!!!! But they put the wax on Thick! He says he feels bad for the next person who has to buff those floors!

Desert guy,

I have not, if I'm walking down an isle in Montgomery Ward and happen upon a set, looks like the Sunbeam will ride another day! If I get bored one day, I'll tear into it and poke around in it (it's sealed in plastic, chilling in the barn!)

totally sarcastic!

Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE Montgomery Ward! So far I have a Wards Signature sewing machine, and a Wards Porta-Power!

Wards IS still around, at-least in a way. The original company and all their stores folded in 2001 (along with the beloved FANTOM!!). The name was purchased, and Wards is now an online vendor. I used to get catalogs in the mail from them, but now I don't know how to sign up for them! I DO get their emails, though!
