Was over at the Lux International website today. Noticed they only have two types of vacuums listed now. A quick stick type and one of those cordless units which is their version of the Dyson. However, the TOL intelligence is not listed any longer. Does anyone know anything about this? Has it been discontinued? If so what will be Aerus’ answer for a “top of the line” canister vacuum be?

I heard a year or so ago that the Guardian Platinum had already been discontinued. Honestly, I think it's over for Aerus. At this point, I just can't see them surviving in the vacuum business for much longer so there's no point of coming out with a new model or even bringing back their older Guardian canisters like the Ultra.

I am friendly with an Aerus dealer in Tennessee. He visited the Aerus factory in Bristol recently. He tells me that the G-Ps arrive in a crate from Slovenia where they are made and placed in an Aerus labeled box with the Aerus sourced hose, wands, power nozzle and attachments. If you look at the European Intelligence they have a different hose with a Bluetooth controller on the handle, telescopic steel wand and a unique to Lux power nozzle. The Aerus version doesn't have the Bluetooth feature and uses a simpler ( well, relatively speaking ) main board shared with an early version called the AC11 Intelligence Classic that was sold in suction only form but retained a power connection for an electric hose a buyer could add later if they wanted a power nozzle.

The Intelligence is really the follow on to the Lux 1R D820. Don't think of it as an Aerus vacuum. It isn't. It is the most recent in a long line of Lux International tank vacuums and the first one not made by Electrolux in Sweden. That happened because the Swiss investors who bought Lux European operations circa 1996 or 1998 ( ? ) lost their butts and sold out to Eureka Forbes of India in 2011. Not sure if the Electrolux Group decided not to sell product to Eureka Forbes or if Eureka Forbes decided to do it on their own but the D820 ceased production around 2011 with the introduction of the Intelligence line. Eureka Forbes sells or sold ( not sure if they still do ) plastic body copies of old steel body Electrolux tanks from the 1970s. Wish I could remember the name because that UK dude who does all the vacuum unboxing videos reviewed one.

Aerus still makes the Classic and Legacy model in Bristol. My friend saw them being made. Those two are still great vacuums, among the best you can buy today. Simple, robust, durable and timeless. Great designs never die. I have the G-P and always thought it was too fragile. It's predecessor the D820 is built like the proverbial brick out building and is more powerful too. I would love to know sometime if the Intelligence was an Electrolux Group design or something Eureka Forbes designed and then commissioned Kolektor to make for them? I have seen really early versions of the Intelligence for sale on European flea markets listed as the Lux D920 with beautiful blue skins making me wonder if the ones called the D920 were made by the Electrolux Group.

Check out the link, that shows the full line of vacuum cleaners.

I'd heard that Aerus no longer manufactures, but only assembles, packages and distributes parts. I thought the Bristol plant was shuttered in 2003.

I'm well aware of the Gaurdian Platinum and how they're made courtesy to dysonman1. Apparently he was the one who made the Guardian Platinum model possible and I thank him for doing so because it's one of my favorite Lux models ever.

No doubt the Classic and Legacy models are good machines (even the Guardian Platinum as well). But I'm gonna pass. For WAY less money, I'd rather buy a SEBO instead which I personally like better anyways. Even I'd also rather buy a Miele as well, may not be as solid as a Lux and may not have as long of a warranty but when I later first saw the prices from a dealer, there's just no way I'd see myself paying extra on a Aerus.

I had likewise read all kinds of heresay about what Aerus does or doesn't make and whether or not Bristol was making vacuums at all. I tend to believe what this Aerus dealer tells me but who knows? Did he imagine a trip to Bristol? They were definitely making Tristar vacuums in Bristol through September 2022 using metal parts last cast in 2019. The Aerus Heavy Duty upright is made in China in the same plant making it's Pro Team and Perfect twins.

As for the G-P, maybe Aerus has an arrangement for Kolektor to continue making the Aerus spec canisters even as Lux International stops selling them? I sent Lux an e-mail asking if the S115 Intelligence is discontinued. I'll let you know what they say if they even bother to respond.

Interesting cause on the Aerus website it still shows guardian platinum canister available. And just a few months ago the lux international site also had their version listed but now it’s gone. So wonder how long it will be before it’s also removed from the Aerus website like the guardian upright was.

To be honest I think all three brands are grossly over priced for what you get. I have canister vacuums from all three companies. In terms of build quality and durability I rate Sebo and the two older Aerus models, the Classic and Legacy, equal. They all have little 40,00 rpm + screamer motors now so I don't see a big difference in that regard. Those little Bosch motors in modern Sebo canisters are not all that durable, unlike the higher quality motors Sebo puts in their uprights or the full sized Domel motor that comes in a C3.1. Those are durable and can be rebuilt. The Bosch motor you just throw away when it burns up.

I have never been impressed with Miele. There is literally nothing about using them I like. I bought them because everyone in the vacuum world says how great they are. They aren't. I like the Sebo C3.1 I have updated with their revised C/K hose and the newer style all metal wand. That is a great vacuum, functional and durable. I honestly prefer the old ET-C to the ET-1 but both do a good job. Their current canister models leave me cold. The Legacy and its 6500 SR predecessors are one of my all time favorite vacuums. Way nicer to use than Miele. An order of magnitude nicer to use.

I've never seen a motor go bad on the K, E, or D series but doesn't mean it wouldn't ever happen. I have before on a Aerus but I'm pretty sure the fault was from those genuine blue paper bags that are so cheaply made cause it was so dusty on the inside. My Diplomat LX I remember came with a blue Aerus bag when I first got it but the motor was still healthy, that was Aerus's mistake was getting rid of those motors especially the power nozzle motors as well cause the newer ones just sound hideous so that's one of the reasons why I wouldn't buy one. SEBO and even Miele motors just sound more pleasant in my opinion, especially the power nozzle motor on the ET-C. To be fair even the Guardian Platinum motor sounds more pleasant as well but for that expensive of a machine, I keep hearing reports of board issues so I think that's just unacceptable. It should've had a 20 year warranty like the Ultra and the 15 year warranty would've been more fair for the Ultra in my opinion. I also think it's ridiculous in my opinion that the CentraLux only has a 5 year warranty. If I had to buy a Lux, that would've been my choice to purchase as I like central vacs the best. I'll admit, I'm not much of a Lux person myself as I'm more of a Kenmore person, I really like my neighbor's E130G and it's my second all time favorite central vac. I'll also admit, I had my doubts on Miele before I tried them out from other's feedback but I was actually really impressed when I did. I tried to use my Diplomat as a daily driver and I wasn't completely sold on it but we all have different tastes. However we both have an agreement on the C3.1, I too prefer the ET-C power nozzle as well. I'd definitely take that over the D4 but I really like the size of the K3 that replaced it. I just don't care about the upholstery tool that'd come with it which the E3 later addressed.

As the article stated, the Bristol plant was closed in 2003. ActivePure Technologies LLC (formerly Aerus Holdings LLC) did reopen it at one point to handle its other products, but it's likely used only for light manufacturing if any such as attachments, hoses, and parts for purification and heating systems. Otherwise, the company would showcase its manufacturing on its website and in its literature.

Correspondingly, for years the words "Manufactured By" were excluded on the Lux Classic, Lux Legacy & Lux Floor Pros' ratings tags, which bore only "Aerus LLC"; although I think that has changed in recent times presumably as a smokescreen; I'd be surprised if Aerus would have invested so heavily in restarting its vacuum cleaner production. That would be cost-prohibitive for such dated designs and a limited customer base.

It's likely that Aerus dealers only assume production is still performed by Aerus workers at Bristol and would understandably have no reason to think otherwise. Your dealer friend likely saw the tank vacuums being assembled and packaged.

Several years ago, I called Aerus LLC's corporate office and asked a basic question that the representative was unable to answer about a vacuum cleaner feature and who informed me that there was no one else that could either. I wasn't told that someone could get back to me at a later time; only that no one had the answer. What do you make of that? I took it that they no longer perform their own vacuum cleaner manufacturing (and I know that at least some of their other products are rebadged, which makes me wonder if it does any manufacturing).
