Of yes there have been many complaints regarding Dyson but they sell a lot if machines and have many happy loyal customers. There are also complaints about Sebo Miele and any other company you care to mention. You can't please all if the people all of the time. :-) Dyson remain the biggest seller in the USA and the UK so they must be doing something right :-)

Marcus - the power nozzle model in the UK was short lived. I think at the time AEG were either about to get the Nimble upright under their own name - and possibly didn't want to steal sales or interest away from its uprights.

it is very confusing given that Electrolux own three different names for floorcare in the UK - budget line with Zanussi, middle line with outgoing Electrolux name (since 2014 Electrolux will no longer apply their name to vacuums) from catalogue stock and AEG reserved for the premium end of the market.

Previously John Lewis also had an Electrolux bagged HiLight upright vacuum under their JL name.

Wow, so many comments already! Just googled the Sebo E series, looks good. I didn't like the K series and the D series would likely be too big for me. Perhaps the E will be the one.

I guess my old Miele S250 will soldier on for a bit until the E arrives. The only thing putting be off another Miele is the cost of the bags. I've been using cheap ebay ones for a few years but wouldn't want to do that with a new one.

Well Sebo Fan if they were so unreliable people would turn away from them in their droves. But they have many loyal customers so that must tell you something
OK not as reliable as Sebo but they have a huge fan base.

I've been using gn bags in the 250 to extend the life of each bag. I have 4 dogs so they fill quickly! Hence mentioning aeg or dyson bagless to save consumable costs, and perhaps bag odours too.

I totally agree with you there. Didn't like the K series. I liked the D series but too big n bulky for my home. I'm very much looking forward to the E series :-)

Well if you have pets and that many dogs, get a bagless. Or Numatic's Henry Hound.

Numatic also score number one for reliability according to Which.

I will say this about Dyson - they are popular because of their constant selling approaches AND because SOME of their vacs are excellent - however the high price doesn't always justify excellent design - and that's the main difference between DYSON and a lot of the other premium brands.

AEG's bag capacity is around 5 litres, so you're not winning on that much extra capacity over the Miele.

However - your S250 has a smaller bag chamber - so even using the GN bag may not be filling it up completely. Bag chambers in both the S2, S5 and S8 are larger for the dust bags.

That's the one thing I don't like about bagged machines the smell specially as you have 4 dogs. Maybe a bagless would be a good idea. Does it have to be a cylinder cleaner?

They are overpriced that is the one thing that annoys me about Dyson. £250 to £280 should be the maximum price of their machines

When you think you can buy a Vax with NLOS which admittedly you'd end up having to wash the filters all the time PLUS have a 6 year guarantee slapped on it, there's a lot to be said for buying cheap.

However, if I owned that many pets I'd probably have two vacuums - one with a large dust bag capacity such as the Numatic option (or even a SEBO D2) and a bagless for every day hair removal.

But with owning dogs (and having had to put up with the ones my relatives bring when they visit and stay for months at a time) I also do a lot of steam cleaning to neutralise areas, especially carpet. Once the carpet has dried out, the amount of pet odour is LOWER than relying on dry dirt suction all of the time.

Yes a bissell carpet cleaner is a good investment. I clean my carpets 2 to 3 times a year.Steaming is also an option to freshen them up as you say. And a henry is a good recommendation as very low running costs.
