Okay! So I have a friend who's mom is like the vacuum murderer! She has blown up so many vacuums, she tells me the fans get busted easy...Well with the way she vacuums it is no wonder! Let me tell you how she sweeps, she has a Oreck XL 21, its the newest 21 before the platinum vacs, anyway, whatever is in the floor goes! That goes for everything! So i was watching her, quarters gone, nuts bolts gone, cigarette wrappers, candy bar wrappers gone..The dog tracks in alot of junk, but one day there were rocks in the floor! Like pebbles but larger! Like real big, rattle rattle rattle CHUNK! Same with the quarters, and the candy bar wrappers but they went PLUMP and it struggled with it..But apon checking the fan, there were only chew marks, and a small chip taken outta one, I'm really suprised, she had worked as a janitor and used sanitaires, they were putting fans in them atleast every few weeks, but she said all of the Orecks shes used shes never had to replace a fan..I am really suprised.. surprized she hasn't taken out the fancase in her Oreck-these can be broken from quarters,rocks,nails and such before the fan.that woman needs a STREET SWEEPER instead of an Oreck vacuum.Or at least steer her to a clean air machine-but even they are not immune to abuse-the hard objects can break the nozzle base.come to think of it I have an Oreck she or someone like her used-the fan and fancase were broken-a bag autopsy revealed quarters,screws,nails,and a couple of keys-what did those go to?the machine is in my junkbox.Was only $2 at a yard sale-maybe one should beware of Orecks at yard sales.

LOL A street sweeper! Well, its fine, so she'll use it till it busts a fan! She loves it though! Plus shes really good with vacuums, so IDK! We shall see what happens to it!

Most new street sweepers use a "clean air" design.A direct air one can be quite dangerous!-imagine a brick or rock picked up!Yes would break the fan and flying objects may be involved!

Some people are like that. They wont stop to pick up anything that could cause damage to any machine. I have seen the same actions myself at work. It explains why there are so many repairs on the machines after seeing how people treat them. Then listen to them complain that the equipment is junk.

She dosent complain is just she uses her Oreck like that because shes never been able to break one! She didnt care for the sanitaires she used, she said they were too easy to break nd she didnt use it like a oreck.

The Orecks can break more easily than the Sanitaires.The Sanitaires have thicker fancases.-the Snaitaire fan may break more easily,though.Its cheaper to replace the fan than the fancase on the Sanitaire-IE the whole base.She needs the METAL fans and steel fancase liners for her Sanitaire.

Shes had more saintaires break than Orecks.. Shes had cracked blades on Orecks, but never had to replace a fan, nd the sanitaires she had to replace the fan nd fancase, shes never had a to repace anything on a Oreck. I love sanitaires but from what ive heard from her she says the fans are too easy to break.

Again what is she picking up?and the fancases on Orecks are thinner plastic than the Sanitaire-the Oreck fancase is replaceab le without having to replace the whole base.she really should look into a metal vacuum with a metal fan if she insists on piking up hard or abrasive objects-even metal fancases and fans are not immune to abuse-they will break if too much hard stuff is piked up-like a Kirby 500 series fan and fancase I saw in a Kirby dealer in the Wash DC area-the user tried to pick up gravel from the bottom of a swimming pool-and there was still water in the pool-luky he did get electrocuted-but the fan and fancase-fan no blades at all-and the fancase had dents and cracks in it.

the powernozzle can be busted thru hard abuse-the case can get cracked from frequent and deliberate hard object pickup.the nozzle motor can be eventually burned up if the brush is jammed by large objects or items like socks and scraps of cloth or paper getting wrapped up in it.but they can't hurt the Shop type vacuum-after all they are used to pick up sawdust,wood chips and shavings,and metal sawdust and shavings from workshops.and they are of course used to pick up debris from remodeling and construction jobs in homes and buildings.If you insist on using one as a "general" vacuum,suggest using the large multilayer paper bags and HEPA filters.Don't use the pleated HEPA filter alone--its a mess to clean it out.and don't use it for wet pickup-use the foam filter instead for wet jobs.And dry it afterwards.
