door to door Lewyt??

At one time Lewyt dealers(furniture stores, hardware stores, etc) had a display for a quick demo of 'Hear the Quiet-Feel the Power'.If they made a sale in the store they might make a house call later,as many dealers of several appliances might,to show all uses and answer questions. At that time many would be buying and using their first vacuum, automatic washer, etc and not be familiar with operating them.If they saw interest in a customer or might be asked to"show my husband"they would again do an in home demo. But as far as DTD as with Electrolux,Kirby and others Leywt remained a store vac.

Rob Shore said: "Greg filled my Subaru Forester with several Filter Queens that he bought off Tom Gasko at the museum!!

One of them he used to clean our motel room with!"

Just curious, did the Filter Queen remove any significant amount of dirt from the rug and/or mattress?

"Several Filter Queens". That's funny. Greg bought every single one I had, with the exception of the 65th anniversary model I use at home, and the vintage ones on display on the Museum's floor.

He got machines never to be seen again such as:
Optima
ElektraPure
Ascention
Empress
Princess 1 (red/white)
Princess 2
Princess 3
Chrome model 500
Tan model 500
Tan/beige model 33

Along with boxes of attachments, like the Filter Queen hair dryer and vibrator.

Vintage filter cone mailing boxes.

But MOST vintage of all, he got a model 200 that was sold to Western Electric for cleaning telephone lines. It was sold with a rubber hose as well as sold in a special metal box they could hoist up and down the phone poles. I even got him the documentation from Western Electric. Truly "one of a kind" stuff.

Back on the Lewyt door to door, from Mr. Lewyt's Obituar

Mr. Lewyt, a compulsive worker, was praised for the sales techniques used to promote his vacuum cleaners, which his company, the Lewyt Corporation, sold door to door after World War II. He visited 100 homes to see, he said, what housewives were looking for in vacuums.
My grandmother did buy her Lewyt from an impressive door to door salesman- it could have been Lewyt himself.

Ralph123--

He did a quick go over of the carpet. Didn't touch mattresses. Too much other exciting stuff to do besides vacuum a hotel room. LOL

There was about a handful of dirt in the bin.

Our motel was using a premium WalMart $44 bagged Bissell PowerForce upright!!! Just an absolutely perfect commercial grade vacuum for a motel/ hotel!!! LOL LOL LOL

Mr. Lewyt's obituary was a complete lie. He didn't visit anyone was home. Not only did he steal the design from filter Queen, he got sued by them too and lost. The actual story of Lewyt and his stolen vacuum cleaner is far more interesting than a door-to-door sales technique which Lewyt never used.

Famous Missouri Marinara Sauce!!!

Not only is Tom Gasko a very knowledgeable vacuum expert, but he is a great cook!!

A few days ago, the memory of the taste of the special Marinara sauce batch that he made for me to take home made me think of how good it might be on a Chicken Parmigiana??

So tonights dinner I decided to make homemade Chicken Parmigiana with linguine, garlic bread and a salad.

I was right!!! The Marinara brought out the taste of Chicken Parmigiana so well!!!!! Wonderful wonderul, it's one of my favorite dishes!!

I really wanted to finish because it was SOOOO GOOOODD!! But I was too full! Here is the small leftover pan plus I still have more of this excellent Marinara sauce courtesy of Tom and Donnie!!!

I did lick the plate clean though---- can't waste any of this sauce. Don't worry about the plate licking either, it's going to run in the dishwasher with Cascasd

So glad you liked our Special St. Louis style sauce. I learned it from an Italian woman on St. Louis's famous "Hill" section where the Italian immigrants lived in the city.

It was designed for dipping fried breaded ravioli in. That's why the sauce clings.

I'll be happy to make more for you to take with you after NEXT YEAR's Vacuum Collectors Convention (not to be mistaken, EVER, for the VCCC).
