Hey everyone, here is my Hoover Turbopower 2 U2090 in an inordinately bright shade of Alpina Yellow.

I got this off eBay last week for £15 the seller was lovely, he was showing me how to use it and I was thinking, yes...I know, I do have 4 already! Bless him. It was in very good condition and the seller let me test it before I bought it and it runs great before and after I cleaned it.

This was the first of the two styles of model U2090, the first one which came out in 1997 was styled like this (pictures bellow) and the other later model from about 2000-2003 had the naff, tacky, cheap lettering on the bag door and cleaner head, but still had the same specification, obviously.

As the Purepower was released at that time (1997) this model was quite a run down Turbopower 2, with no bag-full light and Hoover didn't even include a dusting brush with this model, as it says in the manual, yet it still has the moulding for it!! Even though this model cost only about £99.99 at that time, I still feel it was better than those Purepowers, despite the stonger suction and the top end Purepower was double the price of this Turbopower 2 model!

I didn't need to do much to this apart from give it a good clean and change the filters, the seller provided me with an Electrolux Powerline belt for it!! Bless him. He even gave me the manual, extra bags order form and the guarantee card which were all brandnew and factory sealed in it's packet!! I shall be posting pictures of that later on in the thread.

Now, here is a few before pictures with the after pictures to follow it and then finally the manual.

This is the eBay listing picture, because I stupidly forgot to take a before picture of the assembled machine!

This is the post motor filter I took out and there is the new one I put in after I cleaned the machine up. This is a prime example of the general consumer!

I found stones in the motor cavity, so that was what the rattle was when I was taking it to the car. I am not exactly sure how they found there way in there!

Surprised at the date

As I didn't think Hoover reverted to the narrow bore hose until 1999. I also thought they didn't 'down feature' the Turbopower 2 with the absence of certain tools until that time either. Where did 1997 come from?

I got 1997 from Argos 97 and it features this model (U2090) but it does show the dusting brush, short crevice too and narrow bore hose, mine is from a year later and has no dusting brush or short crevice tool but it does state my model on the manual and inside it says it only comes with a wand, long crevice tool and upholstory tool.

Other side.

The later Turbopower 2's still performed to the same high standard but they were a little bit "shoddily" put together than the earlier ones, as can be seen by the gap between the body and the bag door.

Yes I see now. I think this cleaner may have originally had a wide-bore hose in the beginning; I don't know how they did it, but that rear veiw photo from your Argos book is of a much earlier TP2 cleaner as it shows two crevice tools fitted to the cleaner, just like the models did when Hoover first switched to a scabbard crevice tool. However, unlike TP2 cleaners of the time I talk of, the mains lead does not appear to attach to the back of the cleaner like they did. It is just possible of course that the the set designers at Argos took tools off another Hoover cleaners so as to fill the gap before photography took place. Having said that, I was given to understand that the manufactures were the ones responsible for supplying photography, although that might relate to brand-new yet-to-be-released stock.
