If they weren't put back exactly how they were removed then yes it will spark like that, their shape and the amount of gap to the commutator has changed. Depending on how often you use it and the hardness of the carbons it will probably take several hours of use to clear up.

IMO someone that has 40 years experience would be the person to listen to.

Orange sparks indicate bad connection point to the commutator. Blue sparks indicate a short circuit in the armature or commutator coil. Green sparks indicate the motor is overheating and dying.

Many motor repair videos on youtube will give you an idea of whats going on but the basic gist is bad connection point of the commutator to brushes.

all you have to do is just clean the brushes and the mating surface so that they can contact each other properly. make sure that the brushes can slide up and down freely and that the spring or whatever pushes down on the brushes are doing so properly. "

I'd suspect my friend would of clean it up

But I don't know what I'll do with it yet. I mean yeah the brushes maybe dirty or uneven but I'll just use a DD 08100 handheld vac motor and fan for it. I know its not necessary but atleast the 08100 don't have sparking.

Weird

That rug iirc was the same rug onery used on a couple royal vacuum videos.
I could be wrong but I'm just saying.
Close but not quite
