What's a Trip Whip? Sounds fancy!

Just curious, in the 5th photo of your first post, what's the date on that old newspaper? Guessing it came with the car? I love finding dates with old stuff
smiley-laughing.gif

Oh and btw, you'll have to shoot one of these photos when your get Sweepy gleaming again

Ha Ha! You're Sweepy's God Father! Sammy thought that was funny when I told him! A General Electric Triple Whip is a vintage stand mixer from the 40's. It's called a Triple Whip because it's got 3 beaters! Also, has a built in light! Mine works, just needs to be re-greased, pretty gummy and chewy sounding! They remade a Triple Whip in the 50's too, looks completely different than the 40's ones though! Actually there is a 50's Triple Whip sitting on the counter of Leave it to Beaver's kitchen! The early shows, the later ones they got a Sunbeam model 12. I'll share a pic of mine for you! The first pic is my mixer. The second pic is the 1950's GE Triple Whip. I think the newspaper is dated 1966. I will have to look to be sure on the exact date, could be wrong. I will find out sometime. That's a cool picture you found! I will too! I like dressing in rockabilly pinup style sometimes! :) -Michelle

That makes sense!

Wondered why you needed 3 beaters on a mixer?

Just for you, here's my kitchen lineup! Osterizer Imperial 2-Speed and a Dormeyer stand mixer. I'm pretty sure those are both original bowls on the Dormeyer, they're beautiful! She got a workout last night making pumpkin spice cookies!
I had to take the mixer off the stand to get some of the mix in the bottom corners of the bowl though, it was thick stuff! The pitcher on the Osterizer isn't original, I have the original but the lid on it got torn up, so I took this lid off a 90s Osterizer. Works well, but one time i was making a smoothie and the pitcher unscrewed from it's base, gave the Osterizer a nice banana shower! xD

This picture does that chrome on the Oste (Pronounced Os-tea, I think I'll call her that now!) too much justice, it has a bit of rusting on the side. The Dormeyer could use some work too, cleaning up, missing the beater ejector button, noticed the other night that the 3-speed switch shot a blue spark when switched. The poor baby's a bit tired, but still knows how to make a mean cake!

The best part, you can restore BOTH of my gals when you come drop Sweepy off for his visiting hours! I am his godfather, after all!

Those older Oster blenders-Hard to beat-and they run quiet-and almost last forever.Have some of these.New jars and blades fit the older ones.Dormeyer mixers have a good following on the Applianceville site.Would like to find one.

Alex

Very cool babies you got there! Love that Dormeyer!!! She's a beaut! I've never been to Florida, maybe someday we will visit! We have a good friend that lives in Boca. That mixer wouldn't be hard to rebuild for the fact that it's like a hand mixer! The Sunbeam Mixmasters are time consuming because you have to take EVERYTHING apart!!! I love them all though! Got some more clocks and radios too!!! I literally have no more room!!!! Seem to find room though!!! Ha Ha! Pumpkin cookies sound wonderful!!! I made my first scratch cake in September for Sammy's birthday! So good, that I'll never buy a box cake again! I used my Dormeyer Mixwell to make it! :) -Michelle

Nice Graphic

I like your graphic. I'm sure it wasn't your intent, but it suggests a nice paint scheme for "Sweepy"--black (perhaps with a subtle metal flake?) with the roof and original side stripes in white or maybe silver. Would look sharp, sporty, and most importantly, very '50s. Roofs painted a contrasting color were very popular back in the day but fell from favor in the '60s and '70s when vinyl tops became trendy.

Thanks,I like it too!
smiley-tongue-out.gif

I think that's a great idea, especially with the metal flake! It'll match the 1950s glitter-puke interior nicely! I can see it now, sparkling in the sun...

Rather intentional or not,I have a knack for designing cars. I would've been right at home in the DeSoto design studio!

Michelle, how's Sweepy coming along? Any updates?

Alex

That picture is AWESOME!!!! Sammy and I love it!!! Sweepy is taking a tiny backseat for now. We are finishing up building a shed so we can move all the crap out of the garage so Sweepy will have a place to be so we can work on him! I took his carb off and Sammy rebuilt it and I took his distributor off and Sammy rebuilt that too. Sammy ordered him a WHOLE bunch of new parts!!! I've decided to paint him red with a white top like Christine! I actually found a picture online of a 1959 Desoto 4 door like mine that was painted red and white and it looked phenomenal! Can't see him painted any other way now! Will keep everyone posted once we get rolling with the Sweepy project! As of now, I've been working on my 1991 Chevy Beretta Charlotte! She's been waiting the longest! I want to get her up and going soon! BTW, I love that picture and want a bigger one! I want to print it out and put it in my Sweepy binder! I have a binder of all things Sweepy for car shows! I have a 1959 paint code sheet, dealer ship ad, and dealer ship brochure plus more good stuff! :) -Michelle

a binder full of all things Sweepy!

HAHA I love it! I'll get your bigger version later
smiley-wink.gif

I'm sure he'll look stunning in Christine red! He won't wear it as good as my future Plymouth, but hey, she won't mind....I hope....I'm PRETTY sure.....You know what happens to things Christine doesn't like!

Oh and btw, you're not moving crap out the garage, you're moving miniature treasures!

Hey Michelle, I thought you'd enjoy what I've been working on lately!

I've been on an electronics rampage lately! I got my Sears stereo up and running again (it hasn't spoke since the late 1960s, the same guy who gave it to me ripped out the stereo jacks when he was a kid!). Decided to look it over for the first time in a long time and easily found out which wires went where, even got the phono/aux port wired up to a 3.5mm jack so I can plug in something modern and rock! Was great hearing that baby fire up for the first time! Not as good as hearing a 350 Golden Commando V8 fire up for the first time, but still pretty rad
smiley-tongue-out.gif

Gotta love that lighted dial! My stereo in my room has one in amber, it's a Lloyd's machine, any history on that? you're our resident electronics queen, after all
smiley-wink.gif

I sabotaged parts of the 8-Track system out of the Sears to get the Lloyd's to play tapes a long time ago, I still think it's amazing how i got that thing rigged up in there! Haven't played 8-Tracks in a long while though.

Tonight I was cleaning out my closet and decided to re-examine this pretty (evil!) 50s General Electric clock radio. When I got it it worked fine, but was FILTHY! I took it all apart and washed the case, but sadly cracked the circuit board during reassembly. It's an AM radio anyhow, and I think it had a few bad tubes. Don't remember it ever working. But I decided to give this thing another shot, thinking I could splice together 2 wires and have only the clock work, sit her on the shelf lookin' pretty above the Stereo in the workshop. I was wrong! accidentally yanked the orange wire out of it's transformer while trying to splice it. I've never seen a clock radio refuse to come back to life this badly!
smiley-tongue-out.gif

Thankfully, my later 1960s GE wakes me every morning without fault (provided I set the clock right, hard to tell AM/PM on these old things!
smiley-tongue-out.gif
). and it wakes me up to FM radio! I'm livin' the modern life!
smiley-laughing.gif

I'll grab a photo of the clockradio out in the sun tomorrow. It might be a P.I.T.A, but it still deserves a proper photoshoot!

Very cool that you got your babies working!!! That's awesome!!! I'm sorry to say that I don't know much about 8 tracks!!! I do have an 8 track player, but it doesn't work right, Sammy knows what's wrong with it, haven't had a chance to work on it! You piqued my interest with 1950's GE clock radio!!!!!! Can't wait to see which model it is!!!!!!! I got a pretty neat 1963-64 Admiral clock radio for like $7.00 at an antique store in town last week! The clock works great, but the radio needs a filter capacitor, will get to that very soon! Also, last year I got an RCA twin speaker radio with a phono jack! Bought it so I can hook my record player and IPod up to it!!! I will be fixing that baby very soon!! Can't wait to see your GE!!! Also, take a picture of your 1960's GE clock radio too!!!! Want to see what model that is as well!!!! :) -Michelle

You got it, Michelle!

Here they are! I had  a third one (my first one!) with a really cool dial that would light up in this red/orange colour after dark! I can't get to it right now though, I should restore it some day, the light stopped working awhile back, but MAN was it cool!
smiley-tongue-out.gif

There's a funny story on the 2nd GE! The little fellow was sitting on a table at a flea market when my eyes fell upon him. I turned the radio knob and it broke off! Dropped the price to $5, though
smiley-cool.gif

Still have the knob here somewhere...

Btw, Dormy baked a cake today! The only thing is I had to use her as a handheld because she was having trouble mixing the mix in the bottom sides of the bowl, is that normal? She wasn't making the healthiest noises, either, lots of squealing! I swore I heard a faint voice saying "Michelle....Michelle! Rebuild me!"
smiley-tongue-out.gif

Thought I was going to have to break out Minty, the mint green family heirloom GE....you've got me on a naming spree lately!

Very cool clock radios you got there! Believe it or not, I don't have either of those models and I own a lot of GE's!!!!! Ha Ha! Love the names!!!! No, your Dormey should not be making squealing noises! Does that Dormeyer have a turntable that spins??? If so, does it spin freely or do you have to help it??? My mixmaster turntables sometimes won't spin and all it is, is the bearing needs to be oiled. Does your Dormey have an oiling ports/holes??? If so, put some 3 in 1 oil in them. If not, then it needs to be rebuilt! Just probably caked up with dried up 50 year old cake dust and grease that's gotten gummy. That's usually all that goes wrong. Only one time did I get a hand mixer and the brushes were shot! We fixed it though, works great now! Please send me some more pictures of your Dormey. Just the mixer itself, don't need to see the base! Take pics of the top, sides, and underneath for me. Also, explain more on what it is doing when it makes those sounds (i.e. is it slowing down, having trouble mixing under load, mixer feel too hot, only certain speeds make the sound, etc.) :) -Michelle

I find that hard to believe!

I thought for sure you would have at least 3 of each!
smiley-tongue-out.gif

Here's the Dormy pics, She'll squeal under load but I'm pretty sure she didn't slow down. I ran her just now without anything in the bowl and she sounded OK...ish....but had a slight squeal on wind down. The bowl does rotate, I'm wondering how though! I would think they'd be some form of drive shaft thingy coming from the motor! What's the point of the BOWL SIZE selector? Hopefully you can explain how it works haha
smiley-cool.gif

Found out Dormy has a low serial number, too! 6101!

There's some serious derailment going on in this thread, and...most of it MIGHT be my fault....how about you give us another Sweepy Report? Surely something must be new in the world of Sweepy (how do you buy a '59 DeSoto and not to ANYTHING to it in the course of a week? I'd have the carb rebuilt by day one!
smiley-tongue-out.gif
)

btw, happy 3,800th post to me!

Yeah, it's true, I don't have any of those GE's!!! Ha Ha! Your Dormey does need to be rebuilt! If there's any whining or grinding with anything, it means it's struggling. Most likely it's the grease that's super gummy and it's making your mixer work harder than it should, which could lead to it getting hot and could kill it. I think you would have to use it a lot in it's condition for that to happen, but I would rebuild it. The bowl selector should say small and large. That means if you use the small bowl, the mixer should stay in the middle and if you select large, that's for the large bowl and the mixer should sway away from the middle. That means the beaters will rest right next to the edge of the large bowl to mix and it should cause the turntable to move. If you pack just the mixer head and the beaters very well, I would rebuild it for you!!!! I wouldn't charge you anything, just shipping costs!!! If it would need brushes, then the cost for brushes too, but most likely that's not the case. Think about it, and if you want to do it, I would rebuild your Dormey for you! It would take me maybe a week to get it done due to my work schedule. For dear Sweeps, Sammy put his carb and distributor back on. That's it for now, have a million things to do and no time to do them! We won't be getting serious about Sweeps till this winter, once he's in the garage. Will keep you posted! :) -Michelle

Michelle, you're so kind! But you already have a quarter million things going on, I'd hate to be a bother! I promise you can rebuild Dormy one day, you know I gotta see Sweepy sometime! Maybe I'll have my Christine built by then and we'll have a race! I would say a duel, but, well, we know who would win the duel!
smiley-tongue-out.gif

I've got three GE hand mixers, a handheld Mixmaster, a Hamilton Beach and a antique Mixmaster to fill her place. I forgot how many mixers I had!
smiley-laughing.gif

Nice talking, and keep us posted!
smiley-wink.gif

I was going to ask you to post a thread with all your clock radios, but I decided to go back and look at the pictures you've posted before. Cool stuff! Do you have any clocks with the radioactive glow-in-the-dark dials? Did you ever set them up to all go off at the same time?
smiley-tongue-out.gif

I'm going to restore my light-up GE tonight!

Looking through all those old threads made me realize my daily-driver GE Has a bad cap or something, the radio has static sometimes! And then there's my reel-to-reel machine...don't bother picking these babies up in a Chevette, you're going to need every inch of that DeSoto trunk!
smiley-laughing.gif

Do you think we should take this conversation to email? it is your thread, but I'm still worried this has become quite the hijack! Lol!

Phyllis reminded me of something I forgot to tell you! I saw an OLD chainsaw at a flea market a few weeks back! It was a light green Homelite! It was missing the chain, and the thingy the chain rides on was a weird U ish shape! Thought you would've loved it!
smiley-laughing.gif

I'm going to need a Phyllis of my own one day! I was down at my abandoned dream house caring for the yard after I saw a city notice on it. I met the neighbors and they love me! Couldn't believe a young kid would spend his day caring for this old place! I learned a lot of backstory on the house, too.was a great day! The yard has a lot of trees though, especially around the BOMB SHELTER! I have a newer Remington that serves me well, but hey, anything's better vintage!
