    My New (Old) Rainbow!

Your picture of the water pan after cleaning 3 rooms illustrates well how dust was escaping the water bath.  When the water gets that thick with muck it can't trap the dust any more.  It's a shame there isn't a way to incorporate a signal alerting the user when the water needs to be changed. ...

Question about a Hoover Vacuum model 28

You gotta love a 28 I'm not sure how to determine the date of manufacture from the serial number on these vacs but there are people here who do.  (Will someone in-the-know please chime in?)  The bag on yours Jon is a replacement but looks to be in very good condition.  There are lots of bags...

What is your biggest vintage find ever???

re: the swimming pool I suspect the craigslist seller was a vacuum dealer, maybe a DTD salesman who had been taking trade-ins on new machines.  I guess the unused pool was the only place big enough to store the trade-ins.  The couple photos in the ad showed a fairly good-sized indoor pool...

    Electrolux Model L Question

Electrolux didn't employ a gasket on the hose inlet.  Generic hoses might fit more loosely and leak a little, but I've had a tiny bit of leakage even when using a genuine hose sometimes.  It's never been bad enough to worry about in my experience, just the occasional "hiss" when the hose is...

What is your biggest vintage find ever???

Ok Derek, I had a hunch you were asking a leading question.  How long must we wait to find out about this treasure trove you found?   Last summer there was an ad on craigslist here for an indoor swimming pool full of vacuums but the asking price was in the thousands.

    A *Special* Hoover find!

Fred, you keep finding the most amazing treasures!  That had to have been a heartbeat-skipping moment when you laid eyes on that Special.   I have a vivid memory of seeing a "Special" displayed alongside the newer models in one of the downtown St. Paul department stores, either Schueneman's...

I like! Very nice!  I enjoy seeing all the variations different manufacturers applied to the simple and supremely functional cylinder design.

What vintage is a 615 Kirby?

Didn't Hoover do the same thing with their model numbers depending upon where they were manufactured?  Your UK-made Hoover 612 for instance would be the US model 61.

    Hoover 612 converted to 110v!

Wow, a classic Hoover that looks to be in pretty good condition.  Congratulations!

What vintage is a 615 Kirby?

That must be the Canadian equivalent of the US "515" which is from 1955.  Here is a pic of my 515 with all the original accessories.  The bag on mine in the picture is from a later model.  I have the original bag which matches the one on your machine but mine is in fragile condition.
