Well I found this today at Sally Ann. You can slightly read that it was for 220v...and then a metal stamper has stamped over it 100-110v.

The cord is very thick on this. Here is the ratings plate. I'm not sure if it will show up super clear.
I like it's foot switch! Here's a pic of it's uncleaned underside.

I'm guessing what they did was replace the 240v motor with a US 61's 120v motor... 
Just out of curiosity, what colours are the wires inside the plug there? If they're Red & Black (Live & Neutral, & Green (ground) if 3-wires), then they kept the original power cable too...

This is a keeper for the hand grip alone as they seldom last in this condition, whatever was in the rubber makes them very brittle - Hoover 119 and 638 have the same problem. Its not beyond the bounds of possibality that the cleaner was purchased in UK and transported by people emmigrating to Canada. Can you post the serial number please? If the flex is still UK and not ribbed that too is a keeper as the outer casing of the solid brown cable fitted to the 262 (previous model) also reacts with itself (I know that makes no sense, but it occours over the cord hooks) causing it to blister & break

At the time this was done the UK voltage wasnt standard and could vary between 100-250V depending on area AC/DC. Because of this Hoover dealers were used to changing armatures and field coils when people moved in or out of an area and the filing/restamping was done at the same time. As Al said if someone was emigrating they could have converted it before they left in the same way.
I doubt the cord would have been changed so you will probably find Red and Black possibly with a Green Earth as well!.

My serial number list starts at Jan 1953 with J527100, sp presumably its before then. I cannot say for sure but I would have thought they used a ribbed flex at least after the Junior 119 which used teh same colour scheme so this maybe an early model using the same flex as the 262, although that was normally supplied witha grounded flex (cord) even if there was a two pin (no ground) moulded plug on the end
