    2 Broken Kirby G3's

I remember When I first got my G3, the shift between forward and reverse was extremely ungraceful. Very jerky. I took it apart and replaced the block with one with a spring. IIRC, the old block did not have accommodations for a spring at all. Now it shifts very smoothly. Concerning the handle...

Why no High/Low switch on new Kirby's

Kirby Avalir I saw an Avalir at a thrift store yesterday. I would have gotten it, but I didn't have $400. Still a tremendous bargain, though.

Why no High/Low switch on new Kirby's

The reason is Customers would tend to use their machines on low all the time, while it was intended for small areas. Because the cooling fan was not running fast enough, the motor would overheat.

    Rainbow Chrome Dome help needed!

About two years ago, I got a Rainbow Chrome Dome model D for pretty cheap. I attempted to oil the motor, but I learned my lesson NOT to work on Rainbows. After two years, I dug (literally dug) it out of the closet in efforts of putting it back together. And just like back then, I'm completely...

I got a Rainbow SE for free!

I'd love to, but I don't have much experience working on Rainbows. I tried taking apart a D2 years ago and I ended up putting it in a box and never getting it back together. So unless the D4 is way easier to take apart, I won't attempt it. Some step by step instructions with pictures would...

I got a Rainbow SE for free!

Does anyone know the purpose of these little doohickeys? They fell out of the nozzle when I took it apart for cleaning and I can't figure out where they go.

I got a Rainbow SE for free!

When I used this machine for the first time, I was absolutely amazed. Even with a severely worn brushroll, this Rainbow has just as much, if not more vibration than my Synergy. I started to give it the Novus treatment last night. It didn't make it look new, but most of the scratches are gone.

I got a Rainbow SE for free!

I'm so excited to finally have a working Rainbow! But cleaning it up wasn't easy. The power nozzle was full of vomit and as you can imagine it absolutely reeked. I took the nozzle completely apart and scrubbed it with hot soapy water, and it's all good now. The machine wasn't that bad, I just...

VCCC Newsletter is on the way!

Ah, is there a way to confirm that I'm a member? Or do I need to pay $35. I want to make sure I'm up to date on everything well before Chicago.

    2016 Annual VCCC Convention

Question, On the Schedule, the opening reception is on Thursaday the 16th, but the dates are 15th thru 19th. Am I missing something? Anyway, I sure can't wait to see everybody again. I've put a ton of money into making my car reliable so hopefully we won't have any issues like the past two years.

    A Strange Kirby Classic Omega...

Here is my Classic Omega that I restored almost 3 years ago. I took it to the 2014 VCCC Convention.

Mini Meet at the Vacuum Cleaner Museum

Looks like fun I really enjoyed visiting the Vacuum Museum and Tacony Factory when I was there in June. I look forward to going back someday. Here are a few pictures I took.

    I scored a Simplicity Synergy X9.1!

Thank you, Tom I went to the vac shop on the other side of town today and got a pack of bags. I took the machine in, and we discovered that there was absolutely no suction on the cleaner head and so the proprietor suggested that the fan was busted. I bought a fan and went to put it in, and...

    I scored a Simplicity Synergy X9.1!

While cleaning the bag chamber out, I noticed the the charcoal pre-motor filter has a very poor seal. There is at least a 1/16th inch gap. What gives? I have a hard time believing it came from the factory with such a poor seal. Should I buy a new filter frame or what?

    I scored a Simplicity Synergy X9.1!

Apparently, I did a real good job restoring this machine. I showed it to my mother today, and the first thing she asked is why it looks brand new.

    I scored a Simplicity Synergy X9.1!

I found the manual and figured out that the vacuum is smart enough to know when handle is down. I put the handle down and it worked fine. Any idea of this machine's age?

    I scored a Simplicity Synergy X9.1!

After Novus-ing the plastic for an hour... I got this machine looking much more like a Simplicity now than it did. I used Goo-Gone (great stuff) to remove the $14.99 price tag and some gummy stuff on the power head. I used Novus No. 2 to remove the light scratches and buffed it with Novus No...
