Friends and fellow vacuum cleaner collectors, Chris Spoon and David Morgan, made a trip from Ohio to St. James to come to the Vacuum Cleaner Museum for the weekend. Chris immediately wanted to see the new Simplicity Freedom Cordless upright. Donnie (my husband), Chris, and David give it the "thumbs up".

After playing all day with vacuums at the Museum, Donnie and I had Chris and David over to our new home (they hadn't seen it before) for dinner. I made Coq Au Vin (Julia's recipe). Chris wanted to sweep the dining room rug after dinner. He's using the Aerus Electrolux Guardian Platinum, with the Tri-Star power nozzle (the metal hood makes it heavier and it digs far deeper into the rug).

Tom, do you hear a lot of comments like, "Oh, that's the machine my family had when I was growing up." or "That's the vacuum cleaner my granny had and I was scared to death of it!" or "Our next-door neighbor had this very sweeper." I'll bet the comments you hear are a lot of fun. :)

fun comments

Of course! When I was four, I found one in our basement. Maybe it was a bit newer, but my dad didn't know it was hidden away down there. We lived in a rented duplex then.
He plugged it in, and it was so loud, it scared me. I said put it back in the cellar.

Charles:
We get thousands of people as visitors in a year's time. Some come in groups like Red Hat Ladies or church ladies or retired folks. Those are the people who remember lots of the machines (all remember the model XXX Lux) from the 1930's onwards during their museum tour. Not a week goes by we don't get a family with a little boy who loves vacuums. In one instance, we let the family have a birthday party for their 12 year old vac collector in the 1950's room at the Museum. Sometimes, the kids love vacuums but are afraid of the sound, so we can't turn them on. It's always fun to share with the kids, they've never seen such 'old' vacuums (and we're talking from the 1980's here).
