I scored a Simplicity Synergy X9.1!

I got this Simplicity Synergy today at the Big Saver today for $15! It hasn't really been cared for that well, but I'll be able to fix it. I tried it, and the clean air motor ran, but the brushroll motor did not. I hope that won't be a problem. The back plastic piece is broken in a way that the hose flops around everywhere unless it is taped over. How much does that back plastic piece cost? This has been my dream vacuum for many years and I want this one to be as clean and nice as possible. I'm going to the vac shop on Monday to get a pack of bags and possibly filters. Does anyone know the age of this machine?

After Novus-ing the plastic for an hour...

I got this machine looking much more like a Simplicity now than it did. I used Goo-Gone (great stuff) to remove the $14.99 price tag and some gummy stuff on the power head. I used Novus No. 2 to remove the light scratches and buffed it with Novus No. 1. I also cleaned and polished the headlight lenses. I'm going Monday to get some bags and hopefully that one plastic piece for the back.

Brushroll-primary motor not working-Carpet button on handle turned on?Handle reclined to vacuuming position?Hose selector knob set to Carpet,or floor position?These conditions not met can cause the primary motor not to work.If all these are activated-then possibly your primary motor is bad.There is one of these machines at the vac place here that has a bad primary motor.Failed soon after it was sold.Now languishes in the trade in pile.Don't know what its fate will be-was a demo machine from another vac shop.It is not in the best condition-had been used for several dealer demos and customer "take home" trials.

Oh yes-the pictures reminded me-have you tried resetting the breaker button on the back?Looks like something stuck in the bag feed horn.Hope the other end isn't caught in the primary motor fan.Objects stuck in the fan in those early models can cause the motor to fail despite the breaker.Newer models motors are better protected.

I found the manual and figured out that the vacuum is smart enough to know when handle is down. I put the handle down and it worked fine. Any idea of this machine's age?

Apparently, I did a real good job restoring this machine. I showed it to my mother today, and the first thing she asked is why it looks brand new.

While cleaning the bag chamber out, I noticed the the charcoal pre-motor filter has a very poor seal. There is at least a 1/16th inch gap. What gives? I have a hard time believing it came from the factory with such a poor seal. Should I buy a new filter frame or what?

That's odd. If a new frame is no thicker, go to a hardware or big box store and buy a window air conditioner filter for two bucks, then cut it to size to fit between the frame and body.?
My folks had a low end Simplicity and hated it because the brush roll did not stop when the hose was attached.

This higher end Simplicity stops the primary-brushroll motor when the handle is raised-so the beater bar isn't turning when you are using the hose.Nice feature-but can trap you if you forget!The filter frame-often I had the same problem-had to try snapping the filter holder in a few times to get it to lay flat in the machine.All of the Tacony Tandem air machines stopped the primary-brush motor when the handle is raised.Also the motor should stop when the "hose"-"carpet" selector knob is put on "hose" setting.Only the secondary motor is running in these cases.An interesting experiment-take the bag cover door off and run the machine-you will see the bag inflate and machine will still pick up-but not as good as with both motors at work.Often the dealer demoed them this way-to show the diffrences.It was in the dealers "proof book" on these machines.Got the book from a dealer that went out of business.The other dealer here carries Simplicity-The dealer that closed carried Riccar.I have the Riccar Platinum-got it at a good price when they closed.It is my memorial to him.He was a good freind.He died of Luekemia shortly after he closed down.Out here we miss Bill and the Vacuum Cleaner Hospital!I take the Platinum out for a trip on the carpet now and then-its a good machine-like it along with Kirby,metal Royal.Also have the "red" model Riccar tandem air machine.

The serial number betrays the age. Your machine was made the first quarter (first three months) of 2005.

I went to the vac shop on the other side of town today and got a pack of bags. I took the machine in, and we discovered that there was absolutely no suction on the cleaner head and so the proprietor suggested that the fan was busted. I bought a fan and went to put it in, and figured out that the sharp curve right after the direct air motor was clogged up real good. I had to use a coat hanger to dig out the clog and suck it up with the Electrolux 1205. One thing's for sure. I much rather have a brand new S40P in Black Cherry. I see they fixed the problem with the plastic piece that the hose sits in. The design on the old one forced you to pull the hose out instead of up which causes extreme stress on on area of plastic on the back. On the new ones, you just pull up.
