    Royal Power Tank motor substitution

The motor issue: Due to its misuse before I owned it, the motor in this tank never really sounded "healthy". It had good suction, but had a different sound than the motors in my other power tanks. It began to have intermittent motor pitch fluctuations, but would always work its way back up to...

    Royal Power Tank motor substitution

Great! Thank you! I didn't want to tank the machine(pardon the pun) just because of a bummed out motor. I'll see what I can come up with. Michael

    Royal Power Tank motor substitution

I have navy blue Royal Power Tank with a burnt out vacuum motor; the machine had been used to suck up drywall dust with only the cloth bag, no paper bag, no foam filter, before I got it. I cleaned and lubricated the motor when I got it, but the damage was done, and the motor is dead after only a...

    Electroluxes

So, I don't have to be ashamed about setting the Elux-o- and tossing the bag after capturing a minimal dirt? Good! I especially don't like to prolong Elux bag use if I have recently detailed the motor and interior; I hate the thought of all that fine dust bunging up the coils, brushes...

Another very rare bird goes for peanuts

Wow Rick! Great work on both machines! and, Thank you for the tutorial and slide show!. So, as I understand it now, the Jet 99 was better built, more quiet, and less expensive than the Atlas? That's a great car! Do you still have it? Michael

Another very rare bird goes for peanuts

So, what's inside of this big, bulky red bread box of a Is there any sound deadening motor insulation? Are there exhaust/noise baffles within the case? Or, is it just an empty box with a motor, bag chamber, and an exhaust outlet, similar to a Compact? It seems odd that they could command that...

Another very rare bird goes for peanuts

Are these really that rare? They seem to popping up almost weekly. Is it just coincidence that two should appear in a week? Or are there a lot of these floating around, waiting to be restored? Michael

    Today's thrift store find...A Canadian Hoover 118!

As far as crude humour... Rick, I grew up watching The Golden Girls, Monty Python, Benny Hill, etc, and I've worked in restaurants and janitorial positions; not too much phases me! ;) What was it that made you ask? The "hairiest drive shaft ever" comment? LOL Back to the Hoover... I am growing...

    Today's thrift store find...A Canadian Hoover 118!

After cleaning off perhaps the hairiest drive shaft I have e and after cleaning out the bag tube, it still works like a charm! I'm amazed at the condition of the bristles; I don't think I've encountered a vacuum of this vintage with such long, intact bristles. How difficult is it to find...

    Today's thrift store find...A Canadian Hoover 118!

I stopped at a thrift shop on my way home today, and found this darling little Hoover! It made a horrible racket when plugged in at the shop; I removed a magnet and a finishing nail from the beater bar chamber, and now its just fine! The bag appears to be a replacement, as it uses F&G bags. I...

hard case or soft bag, which do you prefer?

My vote goes to soft bag models! I love the classic look of a Kirby, Royal, or similar metal upright with a big, playful, sausage-like bag flopping around, connected by a ball chain. As far as Hoover is concerned, I prefer 'C' bags to 'A' bags, especially when cased in that lovely satin-ish...

    Finally! :D

Great score! I love these machines! (gasp, I think I have 5 of them now! 2 light blue, 3 maroon) With their onboard tool storage, triple filtration, and unmatched suction, these machines take the cake! Rigged up with a Kirby turbo brush, these are excellent for detail cleaning upholstered...

How many vintage Canadian Electroluxes are among us?

Wow Douglas! What an impressive collection! I've been trying to find manufacturing dates for the line of Canadian Elux products for over ten years; none of the shops around here will really give me the time of day regarding old "junk" machines. Thank you for spelling it all out for me! Did you...

How many vintage Canadian Electroluxes are among us?

What nice units you all have! Of the two red/beige hoses that I've got, one is EXTREMELY leaky but cosmetically intact, the other is fraying but still quite usable. As far as Canadian Elux's on skis, I don't think I've ever encountered a hose that is still usable. Either they are terribly...

How many vintage Canadian Electroluxes are among us?

Dave, Thank you for answering a question for me. I had been wondering what the difference between the red w/cream trim vs. cream w/red trim machines was. I had thought perhaps it was a price difference, but now it all makes sense. I saw a cream w/red trim machine recently, but passed it up...

How many vintage Canadian Electroluxes are among us?

Charles, You have a lovely collection there! I've always been fond of the gray machine with those delicious red bakelite ends. I have one similar, perhaps a 57? in beige and brown with brown bakelite ends, but the rear end of the skis is propped up on a set of wheels that mount to the skis via...

    Question about Royal Model 501

Hi, I'm sorry if my instructions were a bit vague. The bags for the metal machine are paper, with a round plastic collar stitched to the perimeter of the opening. This bag fits inside the cloth outer bag, and the plastic collar sits on the rubber gasket within the metal collar of the cloth bag...

How many vintage Canadian Electroluxes are among us?

I was wondering how many of these Canadian Luxes are floating around in Vacuumland. The machine below is one of the favorites in my collection. I was thrilled to find the matching power nozzle recently, after a 7 year hunt. I know that AeolianDave has a nice grouping of the red and beige set of...
